New Comics Release for 5/17/17

May keeps on rolling by and brings us to
another glorious new comic book day! Lots of stuff going on this week, as it is
a pretty heavy week, so lets jump right on in!
From DC this week, Flash #22 finally ships
brining forth the conclusion to the Button story once and for all….or does
it? Also hitting racks this week is
Batman #23 written by Tom King with art and cover by Mitch Gerads with a story
arc called “The Brave and the Mold” in which Swamp Thing comes to Gotham!

From Image this week Jim Mahfood debuts his
first new creator-owned work in years with the glorious return of Grrl Scouts!
Join Gwen, Daphne, and Rita as they reunite for a pulse pounding psychedillic
adventure through the streets of Freak City. This first issue is stuffed to the
gills with an action packed story, bouns art, soundtrack, sketchbook and behind
the scenes info!

From Marvel this week, big stuff hitting
shelves. Secret Empire #2 for starters! In addition, we see two new series
kicking off. Generation X #1 hits stands written by Christina Strain with Art
by Amilcar Pinna. The Xavier
Institute for Mutant Education and Outreach has opened its doors and is ready
to foster the next generation of heroes and diplomats! But this time around,
the X-Men recognize an unfortunate truth: not all mutants are created equal.
Some mutants are not made to fight Sentinels or serve as ambassadors on behalf
of their kind. Some mutants will just be lucky to survive another day in a
world that hates and fears them. And who better to mentor mutantkind’s lovable
losers than perpetual sidekick Jubilee? But will Jubilee and GENERATION X
survive the experience?? Luke Cage #1 also hits stands written by David Walker
with art by Nelson Blake. Dr. Noah Burstein, the man who made Luke Cage into
the unbreakable hero he is today, is dead. When Luke goes down to New Orleans
for the funeral, he finds The Big Easy to be pretty &$#% difficult.
Mysterious billionaires, a woman with a secret, amped-up gangs and a shadowy
figure all lead Luke to the conclusion that there’s more to his father-figure’s
death than meets the eye. He’s looking for answers, and it’s a bad day for
anyone in his way!

Comics Release for April 19th 2017

New Comics Release for 4/19/17

Man this week is huge. The start of two huge
story arcs from the big two, and lots of other cool things as well. Both of the
big 2 issues are finally picking at the crumbs that have been dropped for the
last year, so lets get right two it!
From Dark Horse this week, we are straying
from the norm and focusing on an Original Graphic Novel that is coming out this
week. Hellboy Into The Silent Sea Hardcover features an all-new story from Mike
Mignola with jaw dropping art from Gary Gianni. Big Red sets sail from the
wreckage of a deserted island only to cross paths with a ghost ship. Taken
captive by the phantom crew that plans to sell him to the circus, HB is dragged
along by a captain who will stop at nothing in pursuit of a powerful sea
creature!

From DC this week, Batman #21 hits stands, and
is written by Tom King with art by Jason Fabok. “THE
BUTTON” part one! The cataclysmic events of DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH #1
continue here! The Dark Knight and The Fastest Man Alive, the two greatest
detectives on any world, unite to explore the mystery behind a certain
blood-stained smiley button embedded in the Batcave wall. What starts as a
simple investigation turns deadly when the secrets of the button prove
irresistible to an unwelcome third party-and it’s not who anyone suspects! It’s
a mystery woven through time, and the ticking clock starts here!

From Image this week two new series fire up
including Redneck #1 written by Donny Cates (God Country) with art by Lisandro
Estherren. This series premiere follows the Bowmans. Vampires who have quietly
run the local barbecue joint in their small town for years, living off cow’s
blood. Their peaceful coexistence ends as generations of hate, fear, and bad
blood bubble to the surface—making it impossible to separate man from monster.

Plastic #1 also hits stands this week, written
by Doug Wagner with art by Daniel Hillyard. Retired serial killer
Edwyn Stoffgruppen is in love with Virginia, a girl he “met online.”
Her affection quiets his vile urges. Together, they tour the back roads of
America in their LTD, eating doughnuts and enjoying their healthy appetites for
each other. Life is good…until a Louisiana billionaire kidnaps Virginia,
forcing Edwyn to kill again in exchange for her freedom. Oh,
and did we mention that Virginia is a sex doll?

From Marvel this week, more new #1s including
a new ongoing Monsters Unleashed series, and Nick Fury #1, But most importantly
their next major event kicks off this week with Secret Empire #0! Written by
Nick Spencer with art by Daniel Acuna and Rod Reis. What if your greatest
ally was secretly your greatest enemy? What if the most trustworthy, stalwart
hero history has ever known has been planning in secret a massive betrayal?
That time is now! The
Marvel Universe is under siege from within! Captain America, secretly a true
believer in the cause of Hydra, has turned his back on the Super Hero
community. Using the trust and respect he has gained over the years he has
ascended to a position where he can enacts Hydra’s ideals. The death of Jack
Flag, the trial of Maria Hill, the second Civil War, the alien Chitauri Queen.
All of the dominos of Captain America’s plan have been laid out — and it will
take only the slightest push to set them into action! Now, the Avengers,
the Champions, the Defenders, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the X-Men and more
will be tested. As Hydra’s grip tightens around the Marvel Universe, the heroes
stand at the precipice of an unprecedented challenge. How will they Marvel
Universe cope with this shattering betrayal by the most trusted among them?

TOTLB 050 The Rocky Mountain Gilmore Girl

totlb-916-300
ALL the way from beautiful Rocky Mountain Comic Con, we bring you the awesome 50th episode of the Thinking Outside the Long Box Podcast!! We are half way to our original goal, AND tattoo’s!!
This is the first time that we have gathered since the infamous Walking Dead premier!! We talk about the two big deaths that happen, and how that will effect the loved ones going forward! Of course, Gabe, and Jon are still not caught up! We talk bout the standalone Wonder Woman movie, and the difference between the standalone movies cramming together a team up. There are issues in the Batman movie, AND issues in The Flash movie, and that is not boding well for the behind the scenes DC universe.
We have two AMAZING interviews for this show!! The first interview that you will hear comes from the hilarious Aris Alvarado!! Aris has done MANY different TV shows, and movies, but his most well known role has to be that of Caesar, in the Gilmore Girls TV show! He tells us the story of how he got the part of Caesar, when originally he was supposed to be a foreign exchange student!! We talk about so many other stories, and we also touch on the revival, which he is in as well!! The best thing about this interview is Aris is so upbeat, and has so much positive energy! The interview made our day, because he was such a humble dude!! This is what I hope for all actors to be like! Don’t miss him, and the revival when it comes out on Thanksgiving!!
Our next interview comes from the creative team of Quince, from Fanbase Press! This comic book tells the story of a young lady, on the verge of her quinceanera, who also learns that she has gained super powers!! She has to navigate through a teenage life, at the same time as navigating through her newfound super powers! It’s hard enough being a teenager……..Listening to Kit, Emma, and Sebastian talk about this book is inspiring!! They talk about diversity in comics, and just in general, and how important that issue is! This comic book will also be available for sale in spanish, which is something different, and very important for a book like this! This team works perfect together, and you can definitely tell that they have a passion for each other, and a passion for what they do!!
We also have a quick interview from Mike Grell, on the show room floor! It’s a short interview, but it’s awesome. He tells us about Green Arrow, and a few other characters he had his hand in!!
For our #PopCultureClassics segment, we talk about the star packed movie, from Quentin Tarantino, From Dusk Till Dawn! Jon and Gabe tell us about some of the first times that they watched the movie, and why Jon’s wife doesn’t necessarily remember watching. It’s pretty hilarious, you don’t want to miss that! But, we also discuss the amazing star power that this movie has, and what other projects spawned after they were in this movie!! We also talk bout the plot, and how the movie is almost two seperate movies in one! This NSFW movie, is DEFINITELY a must watch if you like vampire movies!! It brings the gore, the sex, and the action that is perfect in this type of a movie!!
Remember, you can ALWAYS let us know what you think! We can only think of so many things to talk about every other week, and would LOVE to get some feedback and ideas from all of you out there who are listening!! You can send mp3s and email to our email address. Also, join the conversations on our Facebook Page and Twitter Page. Also, if you have good feedback, please leave it for us on iTunes and Stitcher!! That’s one way to help us climb the ranks into podcast glory!! You can ALSO leave us voicemail!!! Call 970-573-6148 and leave us a hilarious message!!!
