If You Have an iPad Dark Horse Needs You!

Here is the message Dark Horse sent out for Beta Testers.  Join up and get something free!

We’ve been working hard to improve the Dark Horse iOS app and now we need your help!

PRIZES FOR SUBMITTING THE BEST BUG REPORT

We’re looking for beta testers for the next update. We will be rewarding testers that provide the best written, most actionable feedback that help us make the Dark Horse app the best it can be. The tester who, in our judgement, provides the best feedback will receive $50 in-store credit on Dark Horse Digital. The second and third best will each get $25 credit. We will select and notify the winners within 7 days of the release of this update.

Got the point already and want to get started? Just click this link from your iPad or iPhone, and follow the instructions here: https://testflight.apple.com/join/Otko4RrC.

WHAT DO WE MEAN BY ACTIONABLE FEEDBACK?

A crash, a bug, or something we need to fix. Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • A crash or bug has consistent steps to reproduce it.
  • A crash either causes the App to close or freeze/lock up.
  • A bug is unexpected behavior. This doesn’t mean it’s not doing what you want. It means that the app isn’t doing what it is designed to do.
  • If you are not sure if it’s a crash or bug but something is definitely off/not behaving well, please submit it!

WE’RE ALSO LOOKING FOR FEATURE SUGGESTIONS

This app is for you, our comic readers! A feature is something that enhances our app’s usability, improves the reading experience, purchase path, etc. Here are some examples :

  • Displaying your bookshelf as a list
  • Allowing you to select multiple books on your bookshelf and download them or archive them all at once.
  • From the store or bookshelf, download whole bundles or series all at once.

Please note: We have no control over the quality of your internet connection. Also, we cannot make very, very old iPads work faster, would that we could.

HOW DO I REPORT BUGS?

Please use the contact form in the app Settings, which is available by tapping the gear in the upper right-hand corner and then tapping “Help”. You can also send email to iosbeta@darkhorse.com. Please don’t forget to include steps to reproduce any bugs you are reporting.

OK, I WANT TO HELP! HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Just click this link and follow the instructions: https://testflight.apple.com/join/Otko4RrC.

Thanks for your continued support! And for the help!

Hungry Ghosts by Anthony Bourdain

While the world is still mourning after the passing of LEGEND Anthony Bourdain, coming in October, the final graphic novel of Hungry Ghosts will be published by Dark Horse Comics.

Hungry Ghosts “reunites the bestselling writer, chef, and award winning television host with accomplished co-writer Joel Rose, his friend and longtime collaborator, for a series of horror stories inspired by the popular Japanese Edo period parlour game of Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai. The graphic novel substitutes chefs in place of the traditional samurai, and transforms the classic stories of yokai, yorei, and obake by adding a common thread: food is central to each bone-chilling tale.  On a dark, eerie night a Russian oligarch dares a circle of international chefs to play the Samurai game of 100 Candles—where each storyteller blows out a candle after telling a terrifying tale of ghosts, demons and unspeakable beings, praying to survive the challenge.”

The full color, 128 page novel, will go on sale October 2nd!! So in a matter of seven days, you will be able to enjoy this amazing hardcover book! It will feature:

·  5 all-new original recipes prepared by Bourdain;

·  An extended dedication and beautiful send off to Bourdain written by Rose;

·  Stories stunningly illustrated by artists Sebastian Cabrol, Vanesa Del Rey, Francesco Francavilla, Irene Koh, Leonardo Manco, Alberto Ponticelli, Paul Pope, and Mateus Santolouco, with amazing color by Jose Villarrubia;

·  The Real Ghosts, a handy guide to the legendary spirits behind the terrifying tales, written by Rose, with illustrations by Leonardo Manco;

·  A reunion for Bourdain and Rose with legendary comic book editor Karen Berger — the editor of Dark Horse Comics’ imprint Berger Books and recent inductee into the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards Hall of Fame — who was the founding editor of Vertigo Comics, which published Bourdain and Rose’s graphic novel debut, the New York Times #1 bestseller, Get Jiro!

·  A jaw-dropping cover by bestselling comics artist Paul Pope.

Above all else, Anthony Bourdain was a writer. He wrote 14 different books, with a few more in progress at the time of his passing, and spend decades writing and starring in television!

“We hope you’ll celebrate Anthony Bourdain, and his love of story and food, by devouring this book. ”

Full Bleed Volume 2 – Various w., & a. – IDW Publishing

So way back in February IDW released a 200 page, print only anthology, full of comics, art, essays, and short stories called Full Bleed. Funded on Kickstarter and boasting a roster that includes people like Bill Fingerman and Joe Lansdale it looks like a great read that I just haven’t had the chance to pick up yet. Now I’m going to be an issue behind because IDW has Full Bleed Volume 2: Deep Cuts on Kickstarter:
“It’s been so gratifying to see the response to the first volume,” said Creative Director Dirk Wood, “but we’re just getting started here. As much as we loved how the first one turned out, this one takes it up a notch.”
Billed as a “coffee table magazine,” this volume of the quarterly will include interview with Walter Simonson and Los Brothers Hernandez, and be filled to the brim with articles on all sorts of things pop culture as well as having comics and art in them. All the while supporting a charity called Traveling Stories that is dedicated to children’s literacy, “Outsmarting poverty one book at a time.”
You can back the project on Kickstarter (http://kck.st/2H6dLby), and Volume one is still available from IDW.

Elvira Mistress of the Dark #1 – David Avallone w., Dave Acosta a. – Dynamite Entertainment

Dynamite Entertainment is coming out with a four issue mini-series featuring one of the most iconic horror hosts of all time; Elvira Mistress of the Dark. Featuring a story where Elvira gets unstuck from time and is flung into various monster stories, it sounds like the kind of crazy romp that Elvira loves.
“I’m thrilled to partner with Dynamite! I’ve been working hand in hand with them over the past year to put together the best comic series possible. Elvira’s new dark adventures continue, starting in July!” States the Misstress of the Dark Herself – Elvira.
“I really want to capture the essence of what Cassandra Peterson created and bring it faithfully to the comics page,” explains writer David Avallone. “The story is a horror tale (or a quartet of connected horror tales) with a nightmarish villain and danger and action… but at its center is this wise-cracking, plucky, sexy, unflappable heroine. Elvira is incredibly charming and funny and delightful and she maintains that in the face of whatever happens.”
With a lot of great cover artists lined up for the debut issue there will be lots to chose from when this book releases in July. You will be able to find it in Preivews and pre-order it from Hall of Justice Comics and Collectibles in May.
Reefer Madness TPB – Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster w., Jerry Robinson, Jack Kirby, Frank Frazetta a. – Dark Horse Comics

Degradation! Crime! Madness! Hysteria surrounded marijuana as a perceived gateway drug from the 1930s to the 1950s and beyond. Adventure Comics, by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and works by Frank Frazetta, Jerry Robinson, Jack Kirby, and many more, reveal the social reaction to this era of Reefer Madness.  From comically misinformed to soberly concerned, these comics lament the impact of weed on youth culture.
Eisner and Harvey Award winner Craig Yoe brings us his newest collection of wacky, wild, and culturally relevant comics!
