New Comics Release July 11th 2018

New Comics Release for 7/11/18

Another big week of new releases this week with a couple of tentpole titles from the big 2! Also, word is there’s a secret new image book by Robert Kirkman that will be out tomorrow. Keep your eyes peeled for more info about that! Lets get to it!

From Boom! this week, a new digital first comic makes it print debut with Ruinworld #1 (of 5). Intrepid adventurers Pogo and Rex are on a quest for fame and fortune. Their discovery of a special map leads them on an epic journey through dangers, demons and old enemies. Just one problem-they’ve already lost the map. An all-ages comic about fun, friendship and screaming in the face of danger, perfect for fans of Adventure Time and Adventure Zone.

From Dark Horse this week, the creator of Halt and Catch Fire debuts a new series on the Berger Books imprint called She Could Fly #1. In Chicago, an unknown woman appears flying at speeds of 120 miles per hour and at heights reaching 2,000 feet. Then she suddenly dies in a fiery explosion mid-air. No one knows who she was, how she flew, or why. Luna, a disturbed 15-year-old girl becomes obsessed with learning everything about her while rumors and conspiracy theories roil. Will cracking the secrets of the Flying Woman’s inner life lead to the liberation from her own troubled mind?

From DC this week, Big Blue is back in a new ongoing series with Brian Michael Bendis at the helm! Superman #1 comes out this week and is drawn by Ivan Reis. The fallout from the Man of Steel miniseries has Clark Kent looking at the world through new eyes… with new ideas about what Superman could and should do for the city of Metropolis and the planet Earth. His first job? Getting the planet back out of the Phantom Zone!

Also from DC this week Flash #50 hits the racks and is the Finale of Flash War! Zoom adapts two new Speed Force powers into his arsenal against both Barry Allen and Wally West. What are these strange new powers? What can they do? And how will this haunt the Scarlet Speedster long after “Flash War” is over? It’s the power of two Flashes pitted against the seemingly unstoppable Hunter Zolomon!

Lastly from DC this week, Titans #23 hits shelves. Can anything stop the Metagene pandemic unleashed through the events of JUSTICE LEAGUE: NO JUSTICE? The all-new Titans are on the case. Roll call: Nightwing, Donna Troy, Raven, Steel, Beast Boy and Miss Martian! But can even their combined might stand against new super-powered weapons of mass destruction birthed by the Metagenes? And (SPOILERS) how will the events of TEEN TITANS #20 come back to haunt the Titans? New enemies are out for blood in part one of “The Spark.”

From IDW this week Alan Moore returns to the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen! The Tempest #1 comes out this week! After an epic twenty-year journey through the entirety of human culture, Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill conclude both their legendary League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and their equally legendary comic-book careers with the series’ spectacular fourth and final volume, “The Tempest.” This six-issue miniseries is a celebration of everything comics were, are and could be. Opening simultaneously in the panic-stricken headquarters of British Military Intelligence, the fabled Ayesha’s lost African city of Kor and the domed citadel of ‘We’ on the devastated Earth of the year 2996, the dense and yet furiously-paced narrative hurtles like an express locomotive across the fictional globe.

From Image this week, the artist from Chew debuts his new ongoing series! Rob Guillory writes and draws Farmhand, a dark new comedy about science gone sinister and agriculture gone apocalyptic! Jedidiah Jenkins is a farmer-but his cash crop isn’t corn or soy. Jed grows fast-healing, plug-and-play human organs. Lose a finger? Need a new liver? He’s got you covered. Unfortunately, strange produce isn’t the only thing Jed’s got buried. Deep in the soil of the Jenkins Family Farm, something dark has taken root, and it’s beginning to bloom.

Also from Image this week, Outpost Zero #1 hits racks. Welcome to Outpost Zero, the smallest town in the universe. The people there work the land, go to the fights every Friday night, and tuck their children into bed-but the Outpost is no place for dreams or aspirations. To survive is ambitious enough. As Alea and her friends graduate to adulthood on a frozen world never meant to support human life, something stirs. Something sees…

From Marvel this week, web head is back and in a brand new series with a brand new creative team! Amazing Spider Man #1 hits shelves this week! An alien invasion hits New York City and the only one who can stop it is…Spider-Man?! But that’s far from all you’ll find here – a revelation from the past puts Peter Parker’s job, relationships, and whole life in jeopardy! And if even that’s not enough, you’ll see a new roommate, new love interests – and a new villain! Spider-Man goes back to basics courtesy of Nick Spencer (SECRET EMPIRE, SUPERIOR FOES OF SPIDER-MAN) and the Marvel debut of RYAN OTTLEY (Invincible)!

Lastly from Marvel this week, X-23 #1 makes its debut! Cloned from a warrior, raised as a killer, Laura Kinney has gone through hell and come out the other side a hero. After a stint as the All-New Wolverine, she returns to her roots as X-23 to make sure no one ever has to go through the horrors she did. With her sister Gabby and their pet Jonathan in tow, X-23 forges her own destiny in this new series by Mariko Tamaki (HULK, HUNT FOR WOLVERINE: CLAWS OF A KILLER) and Juann Cabal (ALL-NEW WOLVERINE, ELEKTRA).

From AfterShock this week Relay #1 makes it debut! A perfect future of intergalactic travel and community. Every newly discovered planet is unified culturally through a monolithic structure known as the Galactic Relay. Although the towering monument is meant to inspire conformity of ideas, technology, and progress – many resent the foreign structure. Jad Carter, a Relay employee, must keep the peace and act as an emissary to new civilizations. But when he finds the Relay’s mythological creator, Hank Donaldson, his idea of reality and the universe shatters.

Artist Spotlight: Kevin Eastman

Artist Spotlight: Kevin Eastman

Kevin Eastman grew up in a small town in Maine and discovered comics at a young age on a spinner rack in his local drugstore. Kevin’s biggest influence as a kid was Jack Kirby, and his parents were both artistic. In the summer of 1983, Kevin was renting a room from Peter Laird and his wife, drawing comics in what would later become Mirage Studios. One night out of an annoyance to Peter, Kevin thought “If Bruce Lee was an animal, what would be the stupidest animal? Slow moving turtle, fast moving martial artist.” A few sketches later and the Turtles were born.

Kevin and Peter decided to go the indy route after months of being turned down by the big publishing companies. “We were lucky that there was this wonderful movement of self-publishers, Dave Simms was doing a book called Cerebus, Wendy and Richard Pini doing Elfquest,” said Kevin. The first issue dropped in May of 1984 with 3000 copies after being “crowd funded” by Eastman’s relatives.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was always designed to be a parody, with a little New Mutants, Daredevil, and Jack Kirby mixed in. “I loved more grounded super heroes, Batman, Daredevil, (and) Captain America. Daredevil for me was one of my all-time favorites,” said Kevin. “I still remember Daredevil 158 when they brought in this new penciler named Frank Miller. (I thought) this guy’s pretty good!” The origin of the Turtles followed the Daredevil origin very closely, but focused on what happened to the radioactive canister after it fell into the sewer. “Marvel probably could’ve sued our butts off,” Kevin exclaimed.

In one of his most asked about stories, Kevin went on to tell the origin of the Turtles’ arch nemesis, Shredder. “Pete’s wife is an amazing cook, she’d cook us dinner and we’d do dishes. And on this particular night Pete was washing and I was drying, and there was one of those metal cheese graters. I slipped my hand inside to dry the inside, and I was holding the handle of the cheese grater (and said) can you imagine a bad guy with one of these?”

In the early 2000’s, both Kevin and Peter sold their rights to the Turtles to Viacom. The Turtles gained resurgence when Nickelodeon obtained the rights to the cartoon. IDW acquired the rights to the comic book, and asked Kevin if he would consult on the writing with Tom Waltz. It was a fresh idea after nearly 25 years, and they had planned on a 12 issue run. At issue 73, the IDW run became the longest running TMNT series, surpassing the Archie series. “Tom Waltz deserves 100% of the credit for what’s become the IDW universe,” said Kevin, as he also credited the tremendous response from the fans as a reason why this run became so popular.

As TMNT marches towards its historic 100th issue, Kevin said that this is “kinda my tribute to the last run of Mirage comics that Pete and I did called City of War. Starting in issue 89, 90 (it) will run through issue 100 which will be double sized. (This is the) closest thing that I think we’ll ever get to the original Mirage series. Nothing will ever replace that, but the fact that tonally, attitude, edge, it was really written for the original fan base.” And all I can say to that is thank you.

Kevin Eastman appeared at Denver Comic Con on June 16th -17th 2018.

April is here and man is this month HUGE with new releases! Plus we are a month away from Free Comic Book Day! Anyhow, lets jump right in and get to this weeks books!
From Dark Horse this week, Frank Miller returns to the world of 300 with Xerxes Fall of the House of Darius #1 (of 5). From DC this week, Batman #44 hits the stands with a story called “something Blue” written by Tom King with art by Mikel Janin. Follow Batman and Catwoman on two separate but parallel paths as their wedding planning kicks into high gear. Selina picks out her dress, and Bruce starts to make arrangements for their new life together-but this being Gotham City, and they being Batman and Catwoman, you can bet that nothing will go as expected!

Also this week, the New Age of Heroes grows with Curse of Brimstone #1. Written by Justin Jordan with art by Phillip Tan. Joe Chamberlain would do anything to save his small, forgotten town-even make a deal with the devil. But things get worse, and Joe finds himself cursed with the power of BRIMSTONE. With the power of fire and destruction coursing through his hands, Joe must now track down and destroy the demon he made his deal with before the power he now wields destroys the town he was trying to save. But as the fiery pain inside him grows, can this young man overcome his own demons before his power rips him apart from the inside out?

Lastly, in Deathstroke #30 this week, the six issue story arc “Deathstroke Vs. Batman” begins! When Batman discovers a mysterious package containing DNA test results proving that he is not Damian Wayne’s biological father, the Dark Knight sets his sights on his son’s true father-Deathstroke! But Damian Wayne can’t really be Slade Wilson’s son-can he? And who sent the package-and why? The ultimate custody battle ensues as the World’s Greatest Detective and the World’s Deadliest Assassin clash in this instant classic!

From IDW this week, Sonic the Hedgehog is back! SONIC’S RACING INTO A NEW ADVENTURE! After defeating the evil Dr. Eggman’s latest plot, Sonic is racing around the world to shut down the robotic Badnik forces that are still attacking villages. But it’s a big job for one person-even Sonic the Hedgehog! Fortunately, he’ll have some help from his best friend: Tails!

From Image this week, a new series from writer Gerry Duggan and artist David O’Sullivan hits shelves called Analog. Five years from now: the security of the internet has been totally destroyed. Secrets are no longer sent over the web, they’re entrusted to armed couriers called “Ledger Men,” like human punching-bag Jack McGinnis. He’s got a gun in one hand and a briefcase handcuffed to the other. Danger lurks around every corner, and Jack has to watch his back-because he had a part in the cyber attack that changed the world. Get in on the ground floor of this new ongoing series and thrill as we slam Jack’s fist into the faces of spies, mercs, fascists, and eventually less punchable adversaries like a very grumpy artificial intelligence.

Also debuting this week is Brenden Fletcher and Karl Kerschl’s new book Isola, a breathtaking fantasy adventure two decades in the making! The captain of the Royal Guard has fled the capital city with the Queen of Maar, suffering under the effects of an evil spell. Captain Rook’s only hope of returning Queen Olwyn to her throne and saving the kingdom from impending war lies on an island half a world away-a place known in myth as Isola, land of the dead.

Lastly from Image this week, Spawn #284 hits the stands written by Todd McFarlane with art by Jason Shawn Alexander and a beautiful cover by Francesco Mattina. This issue features the re-creation of Spawn’s arch villain The VIOLATOR with a new look and new powers!

From Marvel this week, Amazing Spider Man swings in with the Marvel confirmed first appearance of the Red Goblin! Dan Slott’s final SPIDER-MAN story continues! The GREEN GOBLIN HAS RETURNED – and he’s exacting his ultimate revenge not only on SPIDER-MAN, but on everyone the wall-crawler loves! Norman Osborn’s offering NO QUARTER, an ultimatum that threatens to finish PETER PARKER once and for all!

Also from Marvel this week, Venomized #1 hits stands written by Cullen Bunn with art by Iban Coello. The story that began in VENOMVERSE reaches its epic conclusion with VENOMIZED! The POISONS, a species that hungers for super-powered symbiotes and their hosts, have picked their next target…THE MARVEL UNIVERSE ITSELF! Their first objective? Put every superhuman in a Klyntar symbiote – and CONSUME THEM! But with VENOM and the X-MEN still missing after the events of “Poison-X,” the planet, and its heroes, is defenseless!

On the Horizon – Bram Stoker's Dracula, Grave Diggers Union

On The Horizon
Week to week we receive emails from comic book companies of all stripes. Taking those we present you with the things that we think will be the most interesting to you the listeners. If you have any news or announcements that you would like to share with Thinking Outside the Longbox shoot us an email at: outsidethelongbox@gmail.com
Gravediggers Union Volume 1 – Wes Craig w., Toby Cypress a. – Image Comics

So one of my favorite comics currently going is Gravediggers Union is about to get their first trade, and Image has an amazing trailer. Image says:
“DEADLY CLASS co-creator Wes Craig teams up with artist Toby Cypress (Omega Men) to introduce you to the weird horror of THE GRAVEDIGGERS UNION, VOL.1 this May. The trade paperback collects issues #1-5 of the ongoing series.
In THE GRAVEDIGGERS UNION, VOL. 1, the supernatural world has gone berserk, and it’s all tied to a powerful cult called the Black Temple. They want to unleash ancient dark gods on mankind and bring about the apocalypse. The only things that stands in their way are Cole, Haley, and Ortiz. They’re members of the Gravediggers Union, a brotherhood sworn to defend the living from the undead. At the center of the Black Temple’s plan is a street kid named Morgan. She’s the key to the coming apocalypse. Also, she’s Cole’s estranged daughter. To find her, the Gravediggers will have to contend with a witch who hates their guts, a former cult member who used to be the world’s biggest movie star, yuppie vampires, steroid-zombies, junk golems…and no overtime pay.”
Be sure to pick this book up if you haven’t read them yet. They are fantastic. Check out the trailer too!

Bram Stoker’s Dracula – Mike Mignola – IDW

One of Mike Mignola’s lesser known works is about to get a reprint (which means I won’t have to keep hunting for issue number three to read the story). I for one can’t wait to get a hold of this book. An adaptation of the Gary Oldman film this is for sure a book that you are gonna want to check out if you like horror movies. From IDW:
“25 years ago one of comics’ most celebrated creators, Mike Mignola, adapted to comics, along with Roy Thomas, the star-studded Columbia Pictures (Sony Pictures Entertainment) film by Francis Ford Coppola, Dracula, based on the world-renowned novel by Bram Stoker. Now at last fans of this lost treasure will have a chance to relive the terror, or discover it for the first time, as IDW is bringing the complete story back to print!
“I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have this book back in print,” said artist Mike Mignola. “People have been asking about this one for ages—More than any other book of mine—and I honestly didn’t think it was ever going to be possible to see an edition, but here it is. Thank you Scott Dunbier and IDW. No idea how you did it but very glad you did. I’m generally not a fan of my older work (pretty huge understatement there) but I think this one holds up. Despite the fact that I was doing a movie adaptation (which has its own unique set of problems) I think there is some nice drawing and storytelling in here. One of the very few older jobs I’m still pretty proud of.”
The 136 page hardcover collection features Mignola’s stunning black and white artwork, and showcases the master creators’ final work before launching Hellboy.”
Mike Mignola may not like his older work, but I sure as hell do. Be sure to check this out when it comes out, I get the feeling that you will be pleased.

On the Horizon V1

On The Horizon
Week to week we receive emails from comic book companies of all stripes. Taking those we present you with the things that we think will be the most interesting to you the listeners. If you have any news or announcements that you would like to share with Thinking Outside the Longbox shoot us an email at: outsidethelongbox@gmail.com
Kaleidoscope City by Marcellus Hall – Bittersweet Editions
Got an email this week about a new book coming out from Bittersweet Editions. In releasing what looks to be their fist graphic novel they are really pushing into the world of comic for the sake of artistry. Their press release bills Kaleidoscope City as, “…a spellbinding book, a remarkable graphic novel debut by an accomplished illustrator and acclaimed musician discovering a new creative medium.

With Kaleidoscope City, Marcellus Hall has created a meditation on romance and our collective need for connection. The book provides snapshots from a year in the life of an artist struggling to rebound from a failed romance. As the seasons change, the unnamed man searches the five boroughs for inspiration. Buoyed by his curiosity and a search for meaning, with sketchbook in hand, he finds inspiration in unexpected places, from far-flung neighborhoods to fleeting glimpses of a mysterious woman. With its beautiful line work and sparse, emotive prose, the book is an ode to creativity, a love letter to New York City and a celebration of urban life.
Marcellus Hall is known for his illustrations for The New YorkerThe Wall Street JournalThe Atlantic, and Time and numerous children’s books, and his music. In the 1990’s, Hall formed the band Railroad Jerk, providing vocals and playing guitar for the influential, industrial grunge-folk act whose four LPs on Matador Records helped define an era.”
The Book is already getting good reviews, and I for one am always interested in the cross roads of art, words, and music.
Coyotes Volume 1 – Sean Lewis w., Caitlin Yarsky a. – Image Comics
A cool entry into comics in the last year that I just couldn’t put into my pull because of budgetary constraints will be coming out in trade in April, and I for one am fairly excited. I will be picking this up because as you can read from their press release it is right up my alley:
Writer Sean Lewis (THE FEW, SAINTS) and artist Caitlin Yarsky will collect the first four issues of their dark fantasy series COYOTES this April.

In a dusty desert town on the southern border of the United States, women are going missing. Detective Frank Coffey is called in to investigate—and finds Red, a 13-year-old girl with a sword and a mission: to murder the werewolves stalking the border and picking women off one by one.

It’s Kill Bill meets The Howling in the cutthroat world of COYOTES, where nothing is ever as it seems.

COYOTES, VOL. 1 (ISBN: 978-1-5343-0647-9, Diamond code: JAN180663) hits comic book shops Wednesday, April 11th and bookstores Tuesday, April 17th.” This is one that you need to tell Jon about so you can pick your copy up at Hall of Justice Comics and Collectibles.

Euthanauts – Tini Howard w., Nick Robles a. – IDW/Black Crown
I am a sucker for pretty much anything that feels like a doom metal album come to life and the plot summation of Euthanauts is exactly that. In their press release Black Crown says: “…diving into the great beyond with EUTHANAUTS, her (Tini Howard) second Black Crown title. She’ll be joined by artist Nick Robles (Alien Bounty Hunter) to answer the ultimate question: What happens to us after we die?
Two women aim to find out in this series which combines classically intrepid explorers with our anxieties about death and the beyond — with psychonautic mindspaces to match. The first arc will kick off this July.
Euthanauts is a book about death and dying as a universal concept,’ said Howard. How do these ideas contribute to our relationship with a deathspace we haven’t yet discovered, and what’s behind the light at the end of the tunnel?’
I keep telling friends that I feel like I found a creative home with EUTHANAUTS,’ adds Robles. ‘I’m inspired and excited to see where Tini takes us.’”
Through Black Crown IDW can take some chances on things that would have been on a label like Vertigo, or Image, and that is a good place for any comic company to be. Bring on the creativity IDW!

New Comics for February 21st 2018

Here we go! It’s a big week this week so lets just jump right in!
From Dark Horse this week, we get a new Hellboy One-shot called Burning Season that continues the Hellboy and the BPRD 1955 storyline! Hellboy investigates a rash of spontaneous human combustions in a Florida town unlike any supernatural phenomena he’s seen before-and the fire has an appetite for Bureau agents.

From DC this week, Batman #41 sees the beginning of a new story arc called “Everyone Loves Ivy”. Mikel Janin returns to BATMAN for a brand-new epic! Pamela Isley’s influence can spread as far as vegetation will allow, putting the whole world at her fingertips. Can Batman and Catwoman stand their ground against an entire planet of Poison Ivys?

Also from DC this week, a new mini series begins with Brave and the Bold Batman & Wonder Woman #1. This new mini-series written and illustrated by Liam Sharp (WONDER WOMAN)! When a Celtic god’s murder leads to a war between the fairy folk and a possible breach between worlds, Wonder Woman must find the murderer and keep the peace while Batman investigates strange occurrences in Gotham City. As Diana must turn to the World’s Greatest Detective for help, the two heroes quickly learn their cases may be connected.

From Vertigo this week a new 6 issue mini-series from Josh Williamson and Riley Rossmo starts off called Deathbed. Myth, hack, sex symbol, stark raving lunatic-all of these words have been used to describe Antonio Luna, the world’s greatest living adventurer. Or at least he was until 20 years ago, when he mysteriously vanished from the public eye. Now the ninety-year-old has returned and claims to be on his deathbed. Which is where Valentine Richards, a failed novelist turned reporter, comes in. Val is hired to travel to Luna’s remote castle home and uncover where the old star has been all these years, and just how much of what he says is actually true. But once Val starts to hear Luna’s tale, she finds herself entering into an insane world of psychedelic violence and explosive supernatural adventure.

From IDW this week a new title in the Black Crown imprint of books launches with Punks Not Dead #1. As if being an awkward, bullied 15-year-old isn’t bad enough, “Fergie” Ferguson suddenly discovers he can see dead people. Well, one dead person specifically-the ghost of a certain punk rocker named Sid. Sid’s spirit was trapped in London’s Heathrow Airport for 40 years until the day he met Fergie. Sid’s ghost is now stuck to Fergie-as if Fergie doesn’t have enough on his plate, being raised by a single mum whose idea of parenting is strictly fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants. Now Fergie has to contend with an unruly ghost sidekick and some weird, uncontrollable new “abilities.” How does the father Fergie never knew fit into this mayhem? And why is the Department for Extra-Usual Affairs showing an interest? Never Mind the Bollocks-all of this plus fish fingers, chunky chips, and endless pints of anarchy in the new monthly series PUNKS NOT DEAD!

From Image this week, following the re-release of Kick Ass last week, this week comes Hit Girl! The pint-sized Punisher-meets-Polly-Pocket has left America behind and set off to serve justice around the world. First stop: Colombia. A mother seeking vengeance for the murder of her child enlists Hit-Girl to destroy his killer, but Mindy has bigger plans for Colombia’s most feared hitman. MARK MILLAR and RICARDO LOPEZ ORTIZ join forces for the first chapter of Hit-Girl’s world tour in this new, ongoing monthly series.

From Marvel this week, Doctor Strange sees the start of a new crossover with Doctor Strange Damnation #1. The city of sin gets its biggest sinner yet. When Doctor Strange raises Las Vegas up from its destruction during SECRET EMPIRE, he inadvertently opens a big door for the embodiment of evil, MEPHISTO! The devilish villain takes the city for himself and sets his sights on the rest of the world. It’s going to take heroes from all over the Marvel Universe to defeat him, but there’s nothing simple about fighting the lord of Hell.

Also from Marvel this week, the lead up to Infinity Countdown continues with Infinity Countdown Prime #1. The Infinity Stones. Individually, they grant their wielder great power. Together, they grant the power of a god. Newly reformed and scattered throughout the universe, these artifacts allow the ones who claim them their heart’s desire. Now, as their locations are discovered, forces converge for a battle that will begin the universe down a dark path to the END. Jump onto this exciting ride that will lead to the biggest Infinity yet! Plus: The saga of the Infinity Stones-what they are and how they came to be! From creation to destruction to re-creation, this prose primer will tell you everything you need to know about the legendary cosmic gems!

Comics Release for January 31st 2018

New Comics Release for 1/31/18

January is already over, but with one last
hurrah we get some glorious new comics on the last day of the month. Here we
go!
From Dark Horse this week, the first book from
their “Berger Books” imprint curated by Karen Berger lands this week with
Hungry Ghosts #1. On a dark, haunted
night, a Russian oligarch dares a circle of international chefs to play the
samurai game of 100 Candles-where each storyteller spins a terrifying tale of
ghosts, demons and unspeakable beings-and prays to survive the challenge.
Inspired by the Japanese Edo period game of Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai, Hungry
Ghosts reimagines the classic stories of yokai, yorei, and obake, all tainted
with the common thread of food. First course: With bad consequence, a ramen
chef refuses to help a beggar, and a band of pirates get more (and less) than
they were bargaining for after their encounter with a drowning woman turns
ghastly. Hungry Ghosts is cooked up by the infamous author and chef, Anthony
Bourdain and acclaimed novelist Joel Rose. Joining them this issue are stellar
artists Alberto Ponticelli and Vanesa Del Rey, with amazing color by Jose
Villarrubia, and a drop-dead cover by Paul Pope.

From DC this week, a bunch of new goodies hit
the rack including Metal #5! For new offering we have Motherlands #1 written by
Simon Spurrier with art by Rachael
Stott. In a crazed future
where unhinged technologies and interconnected parallel Earths have given rise
to a spectacular class of super-criminal, the most beloved celebrities aren’t
actors or rock stars, but the bounty hunters who traverse an exotic multiverse
in search of impossible prey! But when the spotlight-shunning, strait-laced
tracer known as Tab finds herself in an ultra-violent race for her greatest
prize yet, she’s forced to work with her greatest enemy, the only person
capable of IDing him: her own elderly, overbearing and hypercritical mother,
who was once the most fabulous and celebrated bounty hunter of them
all.

Also this week the
“New Age of Heroes” continues with Silencer #1! Written by Dan Abnett with art
by John Romita Jr. “CODE OF HONOR” part one! She’s one of the DC
Universe’s deadliest assassins…and you’ve never heard of her. Super-strong,
highly trained, armed with devastating and stealthy meta-human abilities, the
Silencer is virtually invincible. Or at least she was. After decades as
Leviathan’s chief assassin, Honor Guest put in her time and managed to get out
with her skin intact. Now she lives a normal life with a normal family in a normal
house on a normal street. But the past has come back to haunt her in the form
of her old employer and a deadly new mission…and Talia Al Ghul won’t take no
for an answer.

From IDW this week,
the Star Wars Adventures Forces of Destiny concludes with its final offering
featuring Rose and Paige from The Last Jedi.

From Marvel this week, Phoenix Resurrection concludes with issue #5. A light in the
darkness is not always welcome. Kitty
Pryde, Old Man Logan and Cyclops are leading teams of X-Men all across the
globe, chasing events connected to the Phoenix. But with teammates disappearing
and familiar enemies returning, the X-Men are fighting a losing battle. Beast
doesn’t know how or what shape it will take, but he knows they are running out
of time before the Phoenix makes its true presence known. Meanwhile, a young woman named Jean is starting to go
insane in her peaceful, suburban life. Nightmares and daydreams are spilling
over into the world and revealing cracks in her reality. Jean’s life and
everything in it may just be a facade, but made by who? And why? Jean needs to escape. The X-Men need to stop the cycle
of death the Phoenix brings. Their worlds will violently collide as Jean
searches for an opening and the X-Men fight for closure. But when they are
brought together, will the X-Men be reunited with their long-lost teammate – or
something darker?

Comics Release September 1st 2017

New Comics Release for 11/01/17

I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween!
I am currently writing this up in-between kids coming up to the door and
passing candy out. Halloween really is one of my favorite holidays with lots of
amazing memories from when I was a kid! Anyhow, this week is kind of a light
week for new books but still lots of cool offerings so lets dive in!
From DC this week, Neal Adams returns to a
very familiar character with a new 6 issue Deadman series kicking off this
week! Issue #1 even features a super sweet glow in the dark cover! When we last left
Deadman, the true story had barely begun! Deadman’s death was unsolved, and his
fate was intertwined with that of his parents and siblings. Even the Dark Night
Detective couldn’t solve the mysteries of Boston Brand’s fantastic secrets!
Now, Batman is back, confronting Deadman about who was really behind his death.
Was Boston Brand’s assassination a test for the League of Assassins? Why does
Batman think Ra’s al Ghul was involved? And why does Deadman need the help of
Zatanna, Phantom Stranger, Dr. Fate and the Spectre to defend Nanda Parbat?

From IDW this week, keeping the spooky trend,
a gorgeous oversized tribute to the late great Bernie Wrightson is out. The
Bernie Wrightson Artifact Edition is a loving tribute to the master of the macabre
in a glorious 11×17 format will showcase
Wrightson’s ground breaking work in the DC Comics Mystery books and his
legendary artistic turn on Swamp Thing. Additionally, IDW has assembled a
number of rarely seen and completely (until now) unseen treasures.

From Image this week, two new series launch.
The first being Gravediggers Union. The supernatural
world has gone crazy! The apocalypse is coming, and only the Gravediggers Union
can stop it! How? Well, first their leader Cole has to find his estranged
daughter. But is she the one behind the apocalypse? Wild comedic horror with
steroid zombies, monster gods, swamp vampires, ghost storms, and space monkeys!

Also new this week is
No 1 With a Bullet. Her social media, strong. Her variety show segments, a hit.
Nash Huang is at the top of her game. But when the iRis Shutter contact lens
hits the market, Nash’s life is personally invaded. The latest leap forward in
“technological progress,” these contacts not only play video or
augment reality…but also record footage. Fighting to keep her life together
after a leaked sex tape goes viral, a clingy super-fan is the last thing on
Nash’s mind…but that’s exactly when the bodies pile up and the terror begins.

From Marvel this week, Cap is back! And he’s
no longer a sleeper Hydra agent! Steve Rogers is back
in action in the red-white-and-blue! Steve begins a journey across America to
restore his tarnished reputation – and the dangers he encounters along the way are
unlike any he’s faced before! From the creative team of Mark Waid and Chris
Samnee!
