New Comics for April 11th 2018

Another big week this week with lots of new stuff for your eyeballs! Lets get right to it!
From Boom! Studios this week, RoboCop is back! Brian Wood, the visionary writer behind DMZ and Briggs Land, and Jorge Coelho ( Venom, Rocket Racoon ) present a provocative vision of a future where justice is crowdsourced and lethal. It’s been decades since the RoboCop program first began. Corporations have taken over the schools and the government.and law enforcement is the biggest private contract of all. Traditional police forces no longer exist, as all citizens are encouraged and rewarded to spy on their neighbors. There is only one authority on the streets: ROBOCOP.

From DC this week, the lead up to Action Comics #1000 begins with the Action Comics 80 Years of Superman Hardcover! This year marks the 80th anniversary of Superman’s debut in ACTION COMICS #1 – and DC is celebrating this date with the publication of the new hardcover ACTION COMICS #1000: 80 YEARS OF SUPERMAN! It’s an extraordinary party as we revisit stories from across the decades, featuring key character debuts, essays and more in a collection curated by Paul Levitz! Highlights of this collection include: A new cover by legendary artist and DC Publisher Jim Lee. A never before unpublished twelve-page Golden Age Superman story believed to have been written by Jerry Siegel with art by the Joe Shuster Studio.

Also this week, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #42 hits the racks, and starts a new story arc called “Darkstars Rising” written by Robert Venditti with art by Jordi Tarragona and Rafael Sandoval. Hal Jordan is the paragon of a Green Lantern: Courageous and unrelenting. But even a hero can sometimes doubt the methods they’re known to use. And in those moments, something dark creeps in and it can create an evil the universe isn’t ready to face!

Lastly, spinning out of Metal, and fostering the New Age of Heroes, Immortal Men #1 hits this week written by James Tynion with art by Jim Lee. There is a secret history to the DC Universe of heroes who have protected humanity from the shadows since the dawn of time…and who can live forever. Enter the Immortal Men! The team, headed by the Immortal Man, has waged a secret war against the House of Conquest for countless years-but Conquest has dealt a devastating blow. When their base of operations, known as the Campus, is savagely attacked, the Immortal Men must seek out their last hope-an emerging metahuman known as Caden Park! Caden’s emerging powers may be able to ensure the Immortal Men’s survival-but will Conquest get to him first?

From Image this week, Robert Kirkman’s new sci-fi thriller Oblivion Song’s second issue drops! Nathan’s obsession with Oblivion has put a strain on every aspect of his life. His love for Heather is really put to the test now that he’s closer than he’s ever been to finding what he’s truly looking for.

Also from Image, Gideon Falls #2 hits shelves! From superstar writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino, The mysteries of the “Black Barn” heighten as the reclusive Norton begins to unravel new clues just as a murder spree breaks out in the town of Gideon Falls. But how is it all connected?! The puzzle pieces begin to fall.

From Marvel this week, Captain America hits its milestone issue with #700 and the conclusion of the “Out of Time” storyarc. Frozen in time, awakened in a decimated future and once again a man out of his era, there is only one way for Steve Rogers to restore order and rebuild civilization-and that’s to rule it as King Captain America! No dream, no hoax, no lie, this IS Cap and this IS happening, believe it or not! PLUS: Mark Waid delivers an untold tale from Captain America’s past, featuring the classic artwork of Jack Kirby!

Also this week, Domino #1 lands from the glorious creative team of Gail Simone and David Baldeon! Impossible curves. Impossible shots. Impossible targets. Marvel’s #1 soldier of fortune is back in an explosive new ongoing series! The product of a failed super-soldier program, Neena Thurman always made her own luck as the sharpshooting mercenary known as Domino… but what happens when her own powers betray her? The hunter becomes the hunted as every mercenary in the game smells blood in the water! Plus: A pair of beloved Marvel characters return!

Finally from Marvel this week, Exiles #1 hits the shelves. Fan-favorite X-Man Blink once joined a team destined to save not just the world, but the entire Multiverse. And now, her teleporting talents are needed once again! When a mysterious threat begins eating away at the fabric of the Multiverse, the Unseen – the man once known as Nick Fury who now can only observe Earth from a lofty post on the moon – must recruit a champion to save it. But she can’t do it alone. Who will join Blink’s new team – and can they ever go home again?

From AfterShock this week, the creative team behind Unholy Grail, Cullen Bunn and Mirko Colak return with Brothers Dracul #1. The legend of Vlad the Impaler is the stuff of nightmares. The inspiration for the most iconic of monsters-Dracula-Vlad tortured and murdered thousands of victims. But what turned him into such a depraved killer? The truth lies in his teenage years, when Vlad and his brother Radu were held hostage by the Ottoman Empire. During this time, the brothers learned many things-archery, riding, the art of combat, matters of court…and how to stalk and slay vampires.

New Comics for April 4th 2018

April is here and man is this month HUGE with new releases! Plus we are a month away from Free Comic Book Day! Anyhow, lets jump right in and get to this weeks books!
From Dark Horse this week, Frank Miller returns to the world of 300 with Xerxes Fall of the House of Darius #1 (of 5). Persian King Xerxes sets out to conquer the world to avenge his father Darius’s defeat and create an empire unlike anything the world has ever seen . . . Until the hardy Greeks produce a god king of their own, Alexander the Great. Frank Miller writes and draws this long-awaited companion to his masterpiece, 300!

From DC this week, Batman #44 hits the stands with a story called “something Blue” written by Tom King with art by Mikel Janin. Follow Batman and Catwoman on two separate but parallel paths as their wedding planning kicks into high gear. Selina picks out her dress, and Bruce starts to make arrangements for their new life together-but this being Gotham City, and they being Batman and Catwoman, you can bet that nothing will go as expected!

Also this week, the New Age of Heroes grows with Curse of Brimstone #1. Written by Justin Jordan with art by Phillip Tan. Joe Chamberlain would do anything to save his small, forgotten town-even make a deal with the devil. But things get worse, and Joe finds himself cursed with the power of BRIMSTONE. With the power of fire and destruction coursing through his hands, Joe must now track down and destroy the demon he made his deal with before the power he now wields destroys the town he was trying to save. But as the fiery pain inside him grows, can this young man overcome his own demons before his power rips him apart from the inside out?

Lastly, in Deathstroke #30 this week, the six issue story arc “Deathstroke Vs. Batman” begins! When Batman discovers a mysterious package containing DNA test results proving that he is not Damian Wayne’s biological father, the Dark Knight sets his sights on his son’s true father-Deathstroke! But Damian Wayne can’t really be Slade Wilson’s son-can he? And who sent the package-and why? The ultimate custody battle ensues as the World’s Greatest Detective and the World’s Deadliest Assassin clash in this instant classic!

From IDW this week, Sonic the Hedgehog is back! SONIC’S RACING INTO A NEW ADVENTURE! After defeating the evil Dr. Eggman’s latest plot, Sonic is racing around the world to shut down the robotic Badnik forces that are still attacking villages. But it’s a big job for one person-even Sonic the Hedgehog! Fortunately, he’ll have some help from his best friend: Tails!

From Image this week, a new series from writer Gerry Duggan and artist David O’Sullivan hits shelves called Analog. Five years from now: the security of the internet has been totally destroyed. Secrets are no longer sent over the web, they’re entrusted to armed couriers called “Ledger Men,” like human punching-bag Jack McGinnis. He’s got a gun in one hand and a briefcase handcuffed to the other. Danger lurks around every corner, and Jack has to watch his back-because he had a part in the cyber attack that changed the world. Get in on the ground floor of this new ongoing series and thrill as we slam Jack’s fist into the faces of spies, mercs, fascists, and eventually less punchable adversaries like a very grumpy artificial intelligence.

Also debuting this week is Brenden Fletcher and Karl Kerschl’s new book Isola, a breathtaking fantasy adventure two decades in the making! The captain of the Royal Guard has fled the capital city with the Queen of Maar, suffering under the effects of an evil spell. Captain Rook’s only hope of returning Queen Olwyn to her throne and saving the kingdom from impending war lies on an island half a world away-a place known in myth as Isola, land of the dead.

Lastly from Image this week, Spawn #284 hits the stands written by Todd McFarlane with art by Jason Shawn Alexander and a beautiful cover by Francesco Mattina. This issue features the re-creation of Spawn’s arch villain The VIOLATOR with a new look and new powers!

From Marvel this week, Amazing Spider Man swings in with the Marvel confirmed first appearance of the Red Goblin! Dan Slott’s final SPIDER-MAN story continues! The GREEN GOBLIN HAS RETURNED – and he’s exacting his ultimate revenge not only on SPIDER-MAN, but on everyone the wall-crawler loves! Norman Osborn’s offering NO QUARTER, an ultimatum that threatens to finish PETER PARKER once and for all!

Also from Marvel this week, Venomized #1 hits stands written by Cullen Bunn with art by Iban Coello. The story that began in VENOMVERSE reaches its epic conclusion with VENOMIZED! The POISONS, a species that hungers for super-powered symbiotes and their hosts, have picked their next target…THE MARVEL UNIVERSE ITSELF! Their first objective? Put every superhuman in a Klyntar symbiote – and CONSUME THEM! But with VENOM and the X-MEN still missing after the events of “Poison-X,” the planet, and its heroes, is defenseless!

Shadow and Wednesday leave the House on the Rock and continue their journey across the country where they set up aliases, meet new gods, and prepare for war. The Hugo, Bram Stoker, Locus, World Fantasy, and Nebula Award-winning novel and hit Starz television series by Neil Gaiman is adapted as a graphic novel!

From DC this week, spinning out of the Milk Wars event in their Young Animal line, we get a new mini series in Eternity Girl! Caroline Sharp has been a lot of things, including both a superhero and a super-spy. But now, with those days behind her and her powers proving unreliable, Caroline finds herself stuck in a life weighed down by her depression and an inability to change. You see, Caroline is going to live forever, and there is no escape to be had. The very act of living reminds her that, to the rest of existence, she is an anomaly. All of that could change, however, when her old foe, Madame Atom, comes to her with an intriguing offer. Madame Atom can give Caroline the power to end her life; she just has to destroy the rest of the world.

Also new this week, Mister Miracle is back with issue #7! Mister Miracle and Big Barda are in a panic. The war with Apokolips isn’t going well. And it’s Barda’s turn to have her past come crashing back into her present as the Female Furies appear on the scene with blood on their minds.

From Image this week a new 5 issue mini series called Infidel hits shelves. A haunted house story for the 21st century, INFIDEL follows an American Muslim woman and her multiracial neighbors who move into a building haunted by entities that feed off xenophobia. Bestselling editor PORNSAK PICHETSHOTE (Swamp Thing) makes his comics-writing debut alongside artist extraordinaire AARON CAMPBELL (The Shadow), award-winning colorist and editor JOSÉ VILLARRUBIA (Promethea) and letterer / designer JEFF POWELL (SCALES & SCOUNDRELS).

From Marvel this week, Bruce Banner HULK is back! Avengers #684 continues the weekly No Surrender story arc in this Oversized issue. Back from the dead! He cannot be reasoned with. He will not be stopped. Bruce Banner isn’t home right now. There is only THE IMMORTAL HULK!

Also from Marvel this week, a New Mutants mini series kicks off called Dead Souls. THEY AREN’T JUST THE X-MEN IN TRAINING ANYMORE! The New Mutants are launching themselves headfirst into some of the creepiest corners of the Marvel Universe, going on the missions no one else will. But does the team know what they are really hunting for? And what are they willing to do to get it? The enigmatic MAGIK will lead her team of WOLFSBANE, RICTOR, BOOM-BOOM and STRONG GUY and bring them face-to-face with paranormal threats that they may not be prepared for, and that might just tear them apart!

From AfterShock this week, a new series called Betrothed starts off , written by Sean Lewis with art by Steve Uy. Welcome to the world of Betrothed! Kieron and Tamara are both seniors at the same high school. They’ve never paid much attention to each other, even though they are the only kids at school who are orphans. On the eve of their eighteenth birthdays, they discover a lifelong secret: in a dimension far away, they are each the leader of an army that is at war with one another… and what’s more, when they turn eighteen, they’re to be Betrothed or Fight to the Death!

On the Horizon V1

On The Horizon
Week to week we receive emails from comic book companies of all stripes. Taking those we present you with the things that we think will be the most interesting to you the listeners. If you have any news or announcements that you would like to share with Thinking Outside the Longbox shoot us an email at: outsidethelongbox@gmail.com
Kaleidoscope City by Marcellus Hall – Bittersweet Editions
Got an email this week about a new book coming out from Bittersweet Editions. In releasing what looks to be their fist graphic novel they are really pushing into the world of comic for the sake of artistry. Their press release bills Kaleidoscope City as, “…a spellbinding book, a remarkable graphic novel debut by an accomplished illustrator and acclaimed musician discovering a new creative medium.

With Kaleidoscope City, Marcellus Hall has created a meditation on romance and our collective need for connection. The book provides snapshots from a year in the life of an artist struggling to rebound from a failed romance. As the seasons change, the unnamed man searches the five boroughs for inspiration. Buoyed by his curiosity and a search for meaning, with sketchbook in hand, he finds inspiration in unexpected places, from far-flung neighborhoods to fleeting glimpses of a mysterious woman. With its beautiful line work and sparse, emotive prose, the book is an ode to creativity, a love letter to New York City and a celebration of urban life.
Marcellus Hall is known for his illustrations for The New YorkerThe Wall Street JournalThe Atlantic, and Time and numerous children’s books, and his music. In the 1990’s, Hall formed the band Railroad Jerk, providing vocals and playing guitar for the influential, industrial grunge-folk act whose four LPs on Matador Records helped define an era.”
The Book is already getting good reviews, and I for one am always interested in the cross roads of art, words, and music.
Coyotes Volume 1 – Sean Lewis w., Caitlin Yarsky a. – Image Comics
A cool entry into comics in the last year that I just couldn’t put into my pull because of budgetary constraints will be coming out in trade in April, and I for one am fairly excited. I will be picking this up because as you can read from their press release it is right up my alley:
Writer Sean Lewis (THE FEW, SAINTS) and artist Caitlin Yarsky will collect the first four issues of their dark fantasy series COYOTES this April.

In a dusty desert town on the southern border of the United States, women are going missing. Detective Frank Coffey is called in to investigate—and finds Red, a 13-year-old girl with a sword and a mission: to murder the werewolves stalking the border and picking women off one by one.

It’s Kill Bill meets The Howling in the cutthroat world of COYOTES, where nothing is ever as it seems.

COYOTES, VOL. 1 (ISBN: 978-1-5343-0647-9, Diamond code: JAN180663) hits comic book shops Wednesday, April 11th and bookstores Tuesday, April 17th.” This is one that you need to tell Jon about so you can pick your copy up at Hall of Justice Comics and Collectibles.

Euthanauts – Tini Howard w., Nick Robles a. – IDW/Black Crown
I am a sucker for pretty much anything that feels like a doom metal album come to life and the plot summation of Euthanauts is exactly that. In their press release Black Crown says: “…diving into the great beyond with EUTHANAUTS, her (Tini Howard) second Black Crown title. She’ll be joined by artist Nick Robles (Alien Bounty Hunter) to answer the ultimate question: What happens to us after we die?
Two women aim to find out in this series which combines classically intrepid explorers with our anxieties about death and the beyond — with psychonautic mindspaces to match. The first arc will kick off this July.
Euthanauts is a book about death and dying as a universal concept,’ said Howard. How do these ideas contribute to our relationship with a deathspace we haven’t yet discovered, and what’s behind the light at the end of the tunnel?’
I keep telling friends that I feel like I found a creative home with EUTHANAUTS,’ adds Robles. ‘I’m inspired and excited to see where Tini takes us.’”
Through Black Crown IDW can take some chances on things that would have been on a label like Vertigo, or Image, and that is a good place for any comic company to be. Bring on the creativity IDW!

New Comics March 7th 2018

Welcome to March! What a beautiful week we’ve been having if not for all the wind! Anyhow, this week has a bunch of goodies nestled within its releases. Lots of story arc continuations, a few new things, Kirkman’s new book AND a new Walking Dead issue, Red Goblin, Poison Ivy, Infinity stuff, all in all a pretty awesome week! Lets jump in and get to the standouts.
From DC this week, lots of story arcs wrapping up in titles, nothing really new on the horizon. Deathstroke #29 has the finale of its “Chinatown” story arc, and Green Arrow #38 wraps up the “Tale of Two Cities” story arc that wraps up some plotlines from the start of the GA Rebirth Series. Harley and Ivy meet Betty and Veronica wrap up their 6 issue mini series with a killer Tula Lotay main cover!

Also new this week, Young Animal returns with Shade the Changing Woman #1! Written by Cecil Castellucci with art by Marley Zarcone. Shade has shed her alien identity. She’s stepped out of her original Earth body and into another one. Now, free of the burdens of any past life, and finally on her own, she sets out to see more of her new home. But how does she cope when the madness takes all the human emotions she was forced to confront in the Milk Wars and turns them into a bouillabaisse of memory and confusion? And to make it even more challenging, Shade must also face her namesake, the original Changing Man.

From Image this week two HUGE issue #1s drop.
First up we have Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino’s new ongoing series, Gideon Falls #1 from the bestselling creative team behind Old Man Logan and Green Arrow! The lives of a reclusive young man obsessed with a conspiracy in the city’s trash, and a washed-up Catholic priest arriving in a small town full of dark secrets, become intertwined around the mysterious legend of The Black Barn, an otherworldly building that is alleged to have appeared in both the city and the small town, throughout history, bringing death and madness in its wake. Rural mystery and urban horror collide in this character-driven meditation on obsession, mental illness, and faith.

Also new from Image this week, Oblivion Song #1 from Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici! A decade ago, 300,000 citizens of Philadelphia were suddenly lost in Oblivion. The government made every attempt to recover them, but after many years, they gave up. Nathan Cole…won’t. He makes daily trips, risking his life to try and rescue those still living in the apocalyptic hellscape of Oblivion. But maybe…Nathan is looking for something else? Why can’t he resist the siren call of the Oblivion Song?

From Marvel this week, Amazing Spider Man #797 hits the shelves and starts Dan Slott’s final run on the web head with “Go Down Swinging”! The Green Goblin is back – and scarier than ever! Dan Slott has saved his most harrowing Spider-Man story for last as he and Stuart Immonen kick off the AMAZING SPIDER-MAN story ten years in the making. Osborn got his crazy back and has a plan that’ll make all his past plans look like child’s play. Peter Parker and the people he loves (ALL of them) are in deep trouble. And who or what is the RED GOBLIN?! The only way Spider-Man survives is to GO DOWN SWINGING!

Also from Marvel this week, Infinity Countdown is finally here with issue #1! The Saga of the Infinity Stones begins! As the Infinity Stones reappear around the cosmos, the ultimate race for power is on!! Battles will be fought, blood will be spilled, lives will be lost… all as the greatest cosmic heroes and villains vie for possession of the Power Stone, towering over a remote asteroid, somehow grown to the size of a building. Watch as the path to Infinity opens before your eyes and the END lies near…

New Comics for February 21st 2018

Here we go! It’s a big week this week so lets just jump right in!
From Dark Horse this week, we get a new Hellboy One-shot called Burning Season that continues the Hellboy and the BPRD 1955 storyline! Hellboy investigates a rash of spontaneous human combustions in a Florida town unlike any supernatural phenomena he’s seen before-and the fire has an appetite for Bureau agents.

From DC this week, Batman #41 sees the beginning of a new story arc called “Everyone Loves Ivy”. Mikel Janin returns to BATMAN for a brand-new epic! Pamela Isley’s influence can spread as far as vegetation will allow, putting the whole world at her fingertips. Can Batman and Catwoman stand their ground against an entire planet of Poison Ivys?

Also from DC this week, a new mini series begins with Brave and the Bold Batman & Wonder Woman #1. This new mini-series written and illustrated by Liam Sharp (WONDER WOMAN)! When a Celtic god’s murder leads to a war between the fairy folk and a possible breach between worlds, Wonder Woman must find the murderer and keep the peace while Batman investigates strange occurrences in Gotham City. As Diana must turn to the World’s Greatest Detective for help, the two heroes quickly learn their cases may be connected.

From Vertigo this week a new 6 issue mini-series from Josh Williamson and Riley Rossmo starts off called Deathbed. Myth, hack, sex symbol, stark raving lunatic-all of these words have been used to describe Antonio Luna, the world’s greatest living adventurer. Or at least he was until 20 years ago, when he mysteriously vanished from the public eye. Now the ninety-year-old has returned and claims to be on his deathbed. Which is where Valentine Richards, a failed novelist turned reporter, comes in. Val is hired to travel to Luna’s remote castle home and uncover where the old star has been all these years, and just how much of what he says is actually true. But once Val starts to hear Luna’s tale, she finds herself entering into an insane world of psychedelic violence and explosive supernatural adventure.

From IDW this week a new title in the Black Crown imprint of books launches with Punks Not Dead #1. As if being an awkward, bullied 15-year-old isn’t bad enough, “Fergie” Ferguson suddenly discovers he can see dead people. Well, one dead person specifically-the ghost of a certain punk rocker named Sid. Sid’s spirit was trapped in London’s Heathrow Airport for 40 years until the day he met Fergie. Sid’s ghost is now stuck to Fergie-as if Fergie doesn’t have enough on his plate, being raised by a single mum whose idea of parenting is strictly fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants. Now Fergie has to contend with an unruly ghost sidekick and some weird, uncontrollable new “abilities.” How does the father Fergie never knew fit into this mayhem? And why is the Department for Extra-Usual Affairs showing an interest? Never Mind the Bollocks-all of this plus fish fingers, chunky chips, and endless pints of anarchy in the new monthly series PUNKS NOT DEAD!

From Image this week, following the re-release of Kick Ass last week, this week comes Hit Girl! The pint-sized Punisher-meets-Polly-Pocket has left America behind and set off to serve justice around the world. First stop: Colombia. A mother seeking vengeance for the murder of her child enlists Hit-Girl to destroy his killer, but Mindy has bigger plans for Colombia’s most feared hitman. MARK MILLAR and RICARDO LOPEZ ORTIZ join forces for the first chapter of Hit-Girl’s world tour in this new, ongoing monthly series.

From Marvel this week, Doctor Strange sees the start of a new crossover with Doctor Strange Damnation #1. The city of sin gets its biggest sinner yet. When Doctor Strange raises Las Vegas up from its destruction during SECRET EMPIRE, he inadvertently opens a big door for the embodiment of evil, MEPHISTO! The devilish villain takes the city for himself and sets his sights on the rest of the world. It’s going to take heroes from all over the Marvel Universe to defeat him, but there’s nothing simple about fighting the lord of Hell.

Also from Marvel this week, the lead up to Infinity Countdown continues with Infinity Countdown Prime #1. The Infinity Stones. Individually, they grant their wielder great power. Together, they grant the power of a god. Newly reformed and scattered throughout the universe, these artifacts allow the ones who claim them their heart’s desire. Now, as their locations are discovered, forces converge for a battle that will begin the universe down a dark path to the END. Jump onto this exciting ride that will lead to the biggest Infinity yet! Plus: The saga of the Infinity Stones-what they are and how they came to be! From creation to destruction to re-creation, this prose primer will tell you everything you need to know about the legendary cosmic gems!

Comics Release for February 7th 2018

New Comics Release for 2/7/18
Happy February! Since it’s the first week of the month, lots of stuff going on this week with load of new books so lets jump right in shall we!
From DC this week, a couple of doses of Swamp Thing in oversized formats! First the Swamp Thing Winter Special hits the shelves (and only a week behind). Tom King and Jason Fabok pay tribute to the legendary creators of Swamp Thing, writer Len Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson, as they join forces for an earth-shattering Swamp Thing passion project! In this new, squarebound one-shot, Swamp Thing is out of his element as he shepherds a lost boy through a blinding blizzard and other hazards of a strange, frozen tundra. In this touching and harrowing tale of survival, the pair must navigate countless threats throughout a bewildering terrain-with a bloodthirsty snow monster hot on their heels. But how long can they rely on each other? Separated from the Green and stripped of his powers in this dead world, Swamp Thing struggles to fight for their lives and deliver the boy to safety. Disoriented and decaying, Swamp Thing’s fading understanding of his surroundings forces the duo to confront their desperation and uncover the true identity of the snow monster that hunts them. In addition, this special features the final Swamp Thing story from the monster’s co-creator, Len Wein. Originally intended as the start of a new series, it is presented here both in its original script form and with art by Kelley Jones.

Also this week, and just in time to get wrapped up for that special someone in your life, the Young Monsters In Love one-shot also drops this week! It’s hard being a monster… and even harder being a monster in love. Sparks will fly and hearts will be broken when the ghouls and ghosts of the DC Universe assemble to bring you the Valentine’s Day Special that no one saw coming!

From Image this week, a new series kicks off from writer Ivan Brandon with art by Esad Ribic. War has become a spectator sport. Privately funded armies of superstar soldiers march into battle for fame, profit, and the glory of their sponsor nations.
When a new generation of soldiers arrive, top gladiator Satta Flynn is about to discover how fleeting the limelight can be. VS delivers spectacular action, darkly humorous satire, and explores our hunger for fame and our penchant for self-destruction.

From Marvel this week, the culmination of Phoenix Resurrection and Jean Grey have led to this! The debut of X-Men Red #1! Written by Tom Taylor with art by Mahmud Asrar. THE FIRST SENSATIONAL ARC OF AN ALL-NEW TEAM OF X-MEN STARTS HERE! JEAN GREY is back! Returned to a world she doesn’t recognize, the First Lady of the X-MEN gathers an unlikely team – NIGHTCRAWLER, NAMOR and LAURA KINNEY – to face an evil that threatens to tear down XAVIER’s dream by any means necessary!

Also from Marvel this week, Infinity Countdown kicks off with the first of 2 one-shots with Infinity Countdown Adam Warlock #1. ADAM WARLOCK IS BACK! Reborn from the realm of the dead, Adam has come seeking the Soul Stone…and the truth about what it did to Him! His guide through this Infinity Quest is none other than…Kang the Conqueror?!? Be there as Adam begins down the dark trail sure to lead him into the heart of the mystery of the Infinity Stones…

Comics Release for January 24th 2018

New Comics Release for 1/24/18

From DC this week, Flash #39 speeds to the
stands! “The Perfect
Storm” part one! In the 700th tale of THE FLASH, Barry Allen wants to make
amends to the people he’s hurt, but Gorilla Grodd has other plans! If Grodd’s
shocking attack on Central City wasn’t enough, the reason why-and how it
connects to everything The Flash has faced since the Speed Force Storm-will
rock our hero to his core…and change everything he thought he knew!

Also this week, a new
mini series starts this week! Raven Daughter of Darkness #1! In this all-new
miniseries, Raven faces a new, otherworldly menace that is all too grounded in
reality. Plus, Raven’s personal life is in an uproar as her mother and aunt
struggle for the soul of a Titan! It’s up to Baron Winters of the Night Force
to intercede on her behalf as she embarks on the adventure called “The
Girls With the Anime Eyes”! Written by Marv Wolfman with art by Pop
Mhan!

From IDW this week,
the Star Wars Adventures Forces of Destiny continues, this week featuring
Ahsoka & Padme!

From Image this week,
a new series called Dissonance kicks off
written by Singgih Nugroho and Ryan Cady with art by Sami Basri. In an alternate world where Earth is
populated with powerful human-spirit hybrids called Fantasmen, Folke and Roisia
Herviett, two siblings with opposing worldviews, are challenged to prove their
worth and take up their parents’ positions in a devious group who secretly run
the world. Meanwhile, Seraphim, a Fantasmen warrior guard, is sent to prevent a
catastrophic event from affecting the Earth and its own universe.

From Marvel this week, a new 5 issue mini series starts off called
Legion #1 written by Peter Milligan with art by Wilfredo Torres. A mind-bending X-Men
tale from the brains of Peter Milligan (X-Statix, Shade the Changing Man) and
Wilfredo Torres (Moon Knight, Black Panther)! David Haller, the son of
Professor Charles Xavier, has always had trouble containing the multiple
personalities in his mind. And with each personality, comes a wild and
dangerous mutant power. But now, a terrifying new personality is threatening to
absorb these powers and take over David’s mind and
body. In a desperate attempt to save himself, David seeks out the
help of renowned young psychotherapist Hannah Jones to delve into his fractured
mind and fight back this dark personality. But unknown to Legion….Dr Jones
brings her own demons with her…

Also from Marvel this
week, X Men Blue Annual #1 hits the racks and features the crossover between
Venom and X-Men Blue. Spinning
out of the events of Venomverse, the Children of the Atom and the Lethal Protector
team up to take down an extradimensional threat! This is it, folks, the team-up
you’ve been asking for: X-MEN BLUE and VENOM must band together in the cold
reaches of space to protect our universe from a threat more diabolical than you
can imagine. But will EDDIE BROCK, his faithful SYMBIOTE, MARVEL GIRL, CYCLOPS,
ICEMAN, BEAST and ANGEL be enough to save this universe? I really, really hope
so.
