New Comics Release July 11th 2018

New Comics Release for 7/11/18

Another big week of new releases this week with a couple of tentpole titles from the big 2! Also, word is there’s a secret new image book by Robert Kirkman that will be out tomorrow. Keep your eyes peeled for more info about that! Lets get to it!

From Boom! this week, a new digital first comic makes it print debut with Ruinworld #1 (of 5). Intrepid adventurers Pogo and Rex are on a quest for fame and fortune. Their discovery of a special map leads them on an epic journey through dangers, demons and old enemies. Just one problem-they’ve already lost the map. An all-ages comic about fun, friendship and screaming in the face of danger, perfect for fans of Adventure Time and Adventure Zone.

From Dark Horse this week, the creator of Halt and Catch Fire debuts a new series on the Berger Books imprint called She Could Fly #1. In Chicago, an unknown woman appears flying at speeds of 120 miles per hour and at heights reaching 2,000 feet. Then she suddenly dies in a fiery explosion mid-air. No one knows who she was, how she flew, or why. Luna, a disturbed 15-year-old girl becomes obsessed with learning everything about her while rumors and conspiracy theories roil. Will cracking the secrets of the Flying Woman’s inner life lead to the liberation from her own troubled mind?

From DC this week, Big Blue is back in a new ongoing series with Brian Michael Bendis at the helm! Superman #1 comes out this week and is drawn by Ivan Reis. The fallout from the Man of Steel miniseries has Clark Kent looking at the world through new eyes… with new ideas about what Superman could and should do for the city of Metropolis and the planet Earth. His first job? Getting the planet back out of the Phantom Zone!

Also from DC this week Flash #50 hits the racks and is the Finale of Flash War! Zoom adapts two new Speed Force powers into his arsenal against both Barry Allen and Wally West. What are these strange new powers? What can they do? And how will this haunt the Scarlet Speedster long after “Flash War” is over? It’s the power of two Flashes pitted against the seemingly unstoppable Hunter Zolomon!

Lastly from DC this week, Titans #23 hits shelves. Can anything stop the Metagene pandemic unleashed through the events of JUSTICE LEAGUE: NO JUSTICE? The all-new Titans are on the case. Roll call: Nightwing, Donna Troy, Raven, Steel, Beast Boy and Miss Martian! But can even their combined might stand against new super-powered weapons of mass destruction birthed by the Metagenes? And (SPOILERS) how will the events of TEEN TITANS #20 come back to haunt the Titans? New enemies are out for blood in part one of “The Spark.”

From IDW this week Alan Moore returns to the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen! The Tempest #1 comes out this week! After an epic twenty-year journey through the entirety of human culture, Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill conclude both their legendary League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and their equally legendary comic-book careers with the series’ spectacular fourth and final volume, “The Tempest.” This six-issue miniseries is a celebration of everything comics were, are and could be. Opening simultaneously in the panic-stricken headquarters of British Military Intelligence, the fabled Ayesha’s lost African city of Kor and the domed citadel of ‘We’ on the devastated Earth of the year 2996, the dense and yet furiously-paced narrative hurtles like an express locomotive across the fictional globe.

From Image this week, the artist from Chew debuts his new ongoing series! Rob Guillory writes and draws Farmhand, a dark new comedy about science gone sinister and agriculture gone apocalyptic! Jedidiah Jenkins is a farmer-but his cash crop isn’t corn or soy. Jed grows fast-healing, plug-and-play human organs. Lose a finger? Need a new liver? He’s got you covered. Unfortunately, strange produce isn’t the only thing Jed’s got buried. Deep in the soil of the Jenkins Family Farm, something dark has taken root, and it’s beginning to bloom.

Also from Image this week, Outpost Zero #1 hits racks. Welcome to Outpost Zero, the smallest town in the universe. The people there work the land, go to the fights every Friday night, and tuck their children into bed-but the Outpost is no place for dreams or aspirations. To survive is ambitious enough. As Alea and her friends graduate to adulthood on a frozen world never meant to support human life, something stirs. Something sees…

From Marvel this week, web head is back and in a brand new series with a brand new creative team! Amazing Spider Man #1 hits shelves this week! An alien invasion hits New York City and the only one who can stop it is…Spider-Man?! But that’s far from all you’ll find here – a revelation from the past puts Peter Parker’s job, relationships, and whole life in jeopardy! And if even that’s not enough, you’ll see a new roommate, new love interests – and a new villain! Spider-Man goes back to basics courtesy of Nick Spencer (SECRET EMPIRE, SUPERIOR FOES OF SPIDER-MAN) and the Marvel debut of RYAN OTTLEY (Invincible)!

Lastly from Marvel this week, X-23 #1 makes its debut! Cloned from a warrior, raised as a killer, Laura Kinney has gone through hell and come out the other side a hero. After a stint as the All-New Wolverine, she returns to her roots as X-23 to make sure no one ever has to go through the horrors she did. With her sister Gabby and their pet Jonathan in tow, X-23 forges her own destiny in this new series by Mariko Tamaki (HULK, HUNT FOR WOLVERINE: CLAWS OF A KILLER) and Juann Cabal (ALL-NEW WOLVERINE, ELEKTRA).

From AfterShock this week Relay #1 makes it debut! A perfect future of intergalactic travel and community. Every newly discovered planet is unified culturally through a monolithic structure known as the Galactic Relay. Although the towering monument is meant to inspire conformity of ideas, technology, and progress – many resent the foreign structure. Jad Carter, a Relay employee, must keep the peace and act as an emissary to new civilizations. But when he finds the Relay’s mythological creator, Hank Donaldson, his idea of reality and the universe shatters.

New Comics May 16th 2018

It’s a relatively light week this week, comparatively speaking, but lots of old standbys to keep you satiated!

From Boom this week, the Shattered Grid event continues in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #27! As Lord Drakkon’s power and influence grows, the Power Rangers work with new allies from across time and dimensions, including Ranger teams such as Time Force, RPM, and Samurai, to craft a plan to fight back…but is it already too late?

From DC this week, NO JUSTICE continues! After the cliffhanger from issue #1, the teams arrive at Brainiac’s home world to find it already in chaos. Only by splitting up and journeying to the four cosmic trees of Colu will they have any hope of saving the planet…but what’s waiting for them will test the true mettle of their new alliances!

Also this week, New Challengers #1 (of 6) debuts! From the pages of DARK NIGHTS: METAL! Challengers Mountain has returned to the DC Universe and chosen a new team of explorers! Five misfit strangers are given a second chance at life, but only if they obey the orders of the mysterious Professor and execute deadly missions in the most unexplored corners of the multiverse! And if the new Challengers of the Unknown fail…it will be more than just their own lives that hang in the balance!

Lastly, from DC, Superman Special #1 is here this week! “THE PROMISE”! Superman’s world is about to change in a big way, but before it does, the Man of Steel has some unfinished business to attend to…on Dinosaur Island! Superman and a forgotten soldier of the past take one last trip together into the abyss of tomorrow, as Captain Storm now stands face-to-face with the world of today! This extra-sized special also features stories by writers Mark Russell and Ian Flynn with art by Kaare Andrews and Bryan Hitch!

From Image this week, Gideon Falls #3 hits the shelf! Norton gets closer to the secrets of the Black Barn as Fred discovers a grizzly new crime in Gideon Falls.

From Marvel this week, the hunt for Wolverine continues with the debut of new series Claws of the Killer. As word spreads that Wolverine may have returned from the grave, a handful of his greatest adversaries come together to track him down and put him back there. But the brutal and horrific nightmare that SABRETOOTH, LADY DEATHSTRIKE and DAKEN uncover could lead to even more death than even these vicious killers can handle.

Also from Marvel this week, Mighty Thor Gates of Valhalla #1 hits the shelves. “The Death of the Mighty Thor” has come and gone. But Jane Foster’s power to inspire lives on – even in the far future! Don’t miss the tribute to Jason Aaron’s epic tale of Thor and the mighty hammer Mjolnir, drawn by rising star Jen Bartel!
And with or without a Thor, the War of Realms continues. As Malekith’s power grows, the realms will fall – and who is left to stop him? Eisner Award-winning artist Ramón Pérez kicks off the next stage of Jason Aaron’s ongoing saga.

Lastly from Marvel, the X-Men Wedding Special #1 drops this week and features Chris Claremont’s return to the X-Men! One of the biggest milestone events in X-Men history is almost here! Kitty Pryde and Colossus are finally about the tie the knot…but what’s a wedding without the respective bachelor and bachelorette parties? Join Marc Guggenheim and Kelly Thompson for two parties that can only be celebrated Marvel style! All this, plus, a Kitty and Colossus story by legendary X-Men scribe, Chris Claremont!!!

From AfterShock this week, Garth Ennis and Goran Sudzuka debut a new series called A Walk Through Hell! So these two FBI agents walk into a warehouse…
Special Agents Shaw and McGregor handle the routine cases nowadays, which is just the way Shaw likes it. She’s pushing 40, a borderline burnout, the ghastly memories of her last investigation still clinging like shadows. McGregor is younger, more dedicated, hanging onto some measure of idealism whatever the world might throw at him. When two fellow agents go missing inside a Long Beach warehouse, Shaw and McGregor are sent to investigate. But what they find waiting is far from routine, as the local police have already discovered to their cost. Before the night is out, our heroes will encounter terror beyond their most appalling nightmares-in a place where the night may never end at all.

Monday Floppy Copy – Superman Red Son

Hello, and welcome comrades. This week on a very special and somewhat Ukrainian edition of Floppy Copy, we discuss Superman… Red Son. That’s right fellow common worker and probably impoverished member of this socialist party, it is time to grab your Ushanka’s, and sharpen those sickles, that’s right fellow communists its hammer time.

Written in 2003, Mark Millar’s Elseworlds limited series is a 3 part What If story in which Superman is raised in a somewhat unfamiliar setting and time period. No longer american baby Kal-El, baby-El instead crash lands, and is raised in a Ukrainian collective farm. Socialist Super Power, Superman now takes the place of nuclear weapons as the major Cold War deterrent in the 1950’s as America scrambles to find and implement their contingency plan. Red Son spirals into all kinds of cool shit from here, Lex Luther enacting a plan 40+ years in the making alternate versions of DC favorites such as Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern, this story gives a detailed look at a different world and how our beloved Man of Steel conforms and confronts when raised inside.

I’ve tried writing more about Superman Red Son, but in the off chance some of you haven’t read it yet, I really don’t wanna spoil anything. Especially the ending, which I have exposed literally none of here. This is one of my all time favorite comic stories period and not Just Superman Stories either. What I love most about Mark Millar’s take on this “what if” story is that Superman’s main character attributes stay relatively unchanged here. This isn’t an entirely different character with major differences to why and how he’s does things. There are simply different motivations and surroundings for this Superman. Time, and a different cultural outlook on leadership and society do produce a difference, however but this Superman is still very recognizable to fans of the character.

So please do yourself a favor, give Jonthan Garnett a call at Hall of Justice Comics and Collectibles and get yourself a copy of this in either individual issues or trade and read this story. If you haven’t already it is most certainly worth your time. Not guaranteeing he has it in stock but I’m sure he can get the goods!  Also join us this Tuesday night for the Midnight release of Acton Comics #1000 at Hall of Justice and pick up your copy of this milestone in comics. Ten variant covers to collect and one very special comic to win!

How can you win my very own Blank Copy variant of Action Comics #1000 with custom cover art from our one and only Agrovated Artist Tim Huskey, you might be asking, and why would we possibly choose you from the literal tens of people who are probably reading this article?

Well its a little more complex than liking, sharing, or commenting on this post, but I would love it if you would do me that favor as well. This giveaway will require a little more effort on you the reader. WWSD Mother F*cker, probably help out and donate to his favorite local neighborhood charity that’s what… So that’s exactly what I want you to do! Now I know some of us have a little more cheddar than others and can do more in that capacity, but we all can donate a little time, or energy. That’s right get out there and do some good! Donate your time, money, or recognition in the forms of Facebook/twitter/Instagram shares, financial partnership, or hard work to your favorite local charity and then tell us about it in the comments below. You have about 1 month around May 20th I think to get out and do some good as we Celebrate 80 years of the Man of Steel. Winner to be announced on a patreon only video of TOTLB… Surprise twist! That’s right you also have to donate at least 1 dollar one time to TOTLB at Patreon to see the winner announcement and super cool unveiling of the cover! Patreon support not required to win but if you want see us talk about how awesome you are, your charitableness and freaking sweet one of a kind comic on patreon you will have to show your support suckas!

New Comics for April 11th 2018

Another big week this week with lots of new stuff for your eyeballs! Lets get right to it!
From Boom! Studios this week, RoboCop is back! Brian Wood, the visionary writer behind DMZ and Briggs Land, and Jorge Coelho ( Venom, Rocket Racoon ) present a provocative vision of a future where justice is crowdsourced and lethal. It’s been decades since the RoboCop program first began. Corporations have taken over the schools and the government.and law enforcement is the biggest private contract of all. Traditional police forces no longer exist, as all citizens are encouraged and rewarded to spy on their neighbors. There is only one authority on the streets: ROBOCOP.

From DC this week, the lead up to Action Comics #1000 begins with the Action Comics 80 Years of Superman Hardcover! This year marks the 80th anniversary of Superman’s debut in ACTION COMICS #1 – and DC is celebrating this date with the publication of the new hardcover ACTION COMICS #1000: 80 YEARS OF SUPERMAN! It’s an extraordinary party as we revisit stories from across the decades, featuring key character debuts, essays and more in a collection curated by Paul Levitz! Highlights of this collection include: A new cover by legendary artist and DC Publisher Jim Lee. A never before unpublished twelve-page Golden Age Superman story believed to have been written by Jerry Siegel with art by the Joe Shuster Studio.

Also this week, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #42 hits the racks, and starts a new story arc called “Darkstars Rising” written by Robert Venditti with art by Jordi Tarragona and Rafael Sandoval. Hal Jordan is the paragon of a Green Lantern: Courageous and unrelenting. But even a hero can sometimes doubt the methods they’re known to use. And in those moments, something dark creeps in and it can create an evil the universe isn’t ready to face!

Lastly, spinning out of Metal, and fostering the New Age of Heroes, Immortal Men #1 hits this week written by James Tynion with art by Jim Lee. There is a secret history to the DC Universe of heroes who have protected humanity from the shadows since the dawn of time…and who can live forever. Enter the Immortal Men! The team, headed by the Immortal Man, has waged a secret war against the House of Conquest for countless years-but Conquest has dealt a devastating blow. When their base of operations, known as the Campus, is savagely attacked, the Immortal Men must seek out their last hope-an emerging metahuman known as Caden Park! Caden’s emerging powers may be able to ensure the Immortal Men’s survival-but will Conquest get to him first?

From Image this week, Robert Kirkman’s new sci-fi thriller Oblivion Song’s second issue drops! Nathan’s obsession with Oblivion has put a strain on every aspect of his life. His love for Heather is really put to the test now that he’s closer than he’s ever been to finding what he’s truly looking for.

Also from Image, Gideon Falls #2 hits shelves! From superstar writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino, The mysteries of the “Black Barn” heighten as the reclusive Norton begins to unravel new clues just as a murder spree breaks out in the town of Gideon Falls. But how is it all connected?! The puzzle pieces begin to fall.

From Marvel this week, Captain America hits its milestone issue with #700 and the conclusion of the “Out of Time” storyarc. Frozen in time, awakened in a decimated future and once again a man out of his era, there is only one way for Steve Rogers to restore order and rebuild civilization-and that’s to rule it as King Captain America! No dream, no hoax, no lie, this IS Cap and this IS happening, believe it or not! PLUS: Mark Waid delivers an untold tale from Captain America’s past, featuring the classic artwork of Jack Kirby!

Also this week, Domino #1 lands from the glorious creative team of Gail Simone and David Baldeon! Impossible curves. Impossible shots. Impossible targets. Marvel’s #1 soldier of fortune is back in an explosive new ongoing series! The product of a failed super-soldier program, Neena Thurman always made her own luck as the sharpshooting mercenary known as Domino… but what happens when her own powers betray her? The hunter becomes the hunted as every mercenary in the game smells blood in the water! Plus: A pair of beloved Marvel characters return!

Finally from Marvel this week, Exiles #1 hits the shelves. Fan-favorite X-Man Blink once joined a team destined to save not just the world, but the entire Multiverse. And now, her teleporting talents are needed once again! When a mysterious threat begins eating away at the fabric of the Multiverse, the Unseen – the man once known as Nick Fury who now can only observe Earth from a lofty post on the moon – must recruit a champion to save it. But she can’t do it alone. Who will join Blink’s new team – and can they ever go home again?

From AfterShock this week, the creative team behind Unholy Grail, Cullen Bunn and Mirko Colak return with Brothers Dracul #1. The legend of Vlad the Impaler is the stuff of nightmares. The inspiration for the most iconic of monsters-Dracula-Vlad tortured and murdered thousands of victims. But what turned him into such a depraved killer? The truth lies in his teenage years, when Vlad and his brother Radu were held hostage by the Ottoman Empire. During this time, the brothers learned many things-archery, riding, the art of combat, matters of court…and how to stalk and slay vampires.

That’s right TOTLB listeners… and hopefully supporters. Its the end of another week, and by that measure we must set our scales of truth, justice, and comic book judgery to maximum warp! So buckle up butter cup, and knuckle down charlie brown as we are all set and ready to take a look at DC’s Trinity, “Dark Destiny” Issues # 12-15.
This arc, had pretty much everything I like, and yet still kinda fell short by my reckoning. Not by much and overall the run was not bad, but that’s kind of the point to my frustration you know? I hate describing Comics with sentiments such as not bad, or pretty good, sorta kinda all right… you get the picture. I mean face value here these four issues should kick ass! You got your main Trinity in Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, your story based ringers Constantine, Deadman, and Zatanna all coming together to face off against a Demonically Possessed Red Hood, Artemis, and Bizarro. All of them possessed, and by such powerful evil as to completely overcome Zatanna and Deadman drawing Constantine into a magical showdown with a couple immortal badasses in Ra’s al Ghul, and Circe, only to have Batman figure everything out as our  friendly neighborhood Hellblazer plays the distraction, now I wont go to far into the story here as to avoid spoilers and such.
But Whatcha doing DC, come on now buddy, you done got your main 3 amigos dealing in something in which they are not familiar and frankly their failing, and how. Superman literally Gets possessed and we spend an entire comic building the idea that Supes always holds back he never unleashes his full power on even his most powerful foes, but that is all at an end now. We Gotta baby on board and with Clark playing host to beelzebub overhear surly we are in for some all powerful badass demon possessed Superman action; am I right??? Wrong he pretty much does nothing. And why bring in problem specific characters to get wrecked an then overshadowed by Batman… because Science! thats right and pretty much a quote straight outta  issue #14 I believe.

So much wasted potential in my opinion, 3 out of 5 Marthas here and thats being a bit generous.  I feel like Rick from Pawn Stars on this one. Offering you less than half your asking price for a beloved item or treasure while simultaneously assuring you that I think the offer is fair. the subject matter/ characters keep me invested through I will give DC that.
Honestly Dark Destiny is just a so/so story, and the creative teams inability to step off the ride that is full on Batman Erection for something more plot driven or perhaps something more inline with why Deadman, Constantine, and Zatanna are in this run of Trinity at all. But perhaps I judge to harshly, please feel free to comment right here as well as any thoughts and/or suggestions you may have for future Floppys do you Copy?

New Comics for December 6th 2017

New Comics Release for 12/6/17

Well it is December! Man how time flies! With
all of the hubbub surrounding the holidays, make sure you find time to treat
yourself to some comics! And this week proves that there are still some stellar
things in the pipelines for the last of 2017!
From DC this week, the ever-coveted DC
Universe Holiday Special 2017 hits shelves. DC Comics’
finest talents have assembled to bring you a holiday special like you’ve never
seen before! Join Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash as they deliver powerful
messages of hope like only The Worlds Greatest Super-Heroes can! Plus: Sgt.
Rock fights the Nazis on Hanukah, the Teen Titans take on the literal ghost of
Christmas past, and Swamp Thing battles that creeping feeling of existential
dread! And don’t miss the legendary Denny O’Neil’s return to comics with an
all-new Batman story!

From Image this week,
three new debuts hit the racks, with Paradiso, Sleepless, and the return of
Witchblade!
From writer Ram V and
artist Dev Pramanik, comes Paradiso #1 a new technothriller! The Midnight Event
forever changed the world. Now, centuries later, Jack Kryznan arrives on the
outskirts of Paradiso City, haunted by fragments of childhood memories and in
possession of a mysterious device-one with the power to change the destiny of
this living breathing metropolis, the people who dwell within, and the
guardians who strive for and against it.

From writer Sarah
Vaughn and artist Leila Del Duca comes Sleepless #1, a new fantasy romance
series! Lady “Poppy” Pyppenia is guarded by the Sleepless Knight
Cyrenic, but danger is around every corner once the new king is
coronated.

Lastly, Witchblade is
back! Written by Caitlin Kittredge with art by Roberta Ingranata. Gunned down
and left for dead on a New York rooftop, Alex Underwood’s life should have
ended there-but instead, at the moment of death, she became host to the
Witchblade, a mystical artifact that grants the woman wielding it extraordinary
powers. But the power comes with a heavy cost, and Alex finds herself thrust
into the center of an unseen battle raging on the snowy streets of NYC. Demons
are real and walking among humans, and every one of them is intent on taking
out the Witchblade’s newest host before she becomes too strong to kill. But the
artifact chose Alex for a reason, and she’s not going down without a fight.

From Marvel this week, a special one-shot hits
racks that kicks off a crossover event between Amazing Spider Man and Venom. Amazing Spider Man Venom Inc Alpha #1 is
written by Dan Slott with art by Ryan Stegman. Peter Parker, Eddie Brock and
Flash Thompson have one major thing in common – the Venom symbiote changed all
of their lives. The inky black alien life-form is doubling down on our heroes –
and they’re not the only ones about to be put through the ringer. VENOM INC.
kicks off here and rolls into AMAZING SPIDER-MAN & VENOM as a familiar face
rises to new levels of villainy!

From Boom! Studios
this week, another beloved Nickelodeon cartoon is adapted to comics with Rockos
Modern Life #1! Ryan Ferrier (Regular Show) and Ian McGinty (Adventure Time)
continue BOOM! Studios’ partnership with Nickelodeon with all-new stories about
everyone’s favorite wallaby!
When Rocko faces unemployment, a terrible living
situation, and increasingly slim job prospects, he is forced to find out just
how far he is willing to go to get a job. Features
a backup story by KC Green where Ed Bighead finds himself in the dentist chair
of Dr. Hutchison!

From Dynamite this
week, Barbarella is back and is written by Mike Carey with art by Kenan Yarar. Earth’s
star-crossed daughter is back! When Barbarella wanders into a war zone, the
theocratic rulers of Parosia arrest and imprison her. A prison break is
brewing, but now that she knows what the Parosians do to their own citizens
Barbarella decides to make this fight her own…

TOTLB 061 Free Comic Book Day 2017

totlb-916-300
Hi all!! Our 61st episode comes from Hall of Justice Comics & Collectibles, where we celebrated FREE COMIC BOOK DAY!
Special guest hosts, Dominic “DomPee’s” Pacheco, and Michael “midget porn” Kuyrk, join me for this awesome event, as Gabe was celebrating the birthday of his youngest daughter!
Our pick for this recording’s #popcultureclassic is the 2003 comic book, Superman: Red Son. This book is all about the ramifications, of what would have happened, had Superman landed in Russia, instead of the United States. Is he a bad guy? Does he still want what is best for humanity? It’s a really good read, and we have some pretty cool opinions on the book!
No “official” interviews for this episode, but we did speak to some of the artists that were on hand. Frankie Serna told us about his Denver Comic Con kickoff party, and a small amount of information about his new book with Herb. Herb spoke to us mostly about this book, which is about a soldier who can never “die.” It’s a 3-5 year story, and we are super excited to see how it unfolds!! We also spoke to many of the awesome attendee’s, and our smallest listener, Marika, makes a special appearance!
Remember, you can ALWAYS let us know what you think! We can only think of so many things to talk about every other week, and would LOVE to get some feedback and ideas from all of you out there who are listening!! You can send mp3s and email to our email address. Also, join the conversations on our Facebook Page and Twitter Page. Also, if you have good feedback, please leave it for us on iTunes and Stitcher!! That’s one way to help us climb the ranks into podcast glory!! You can ALSO leave us voicemail!!! Call the Michael Kuyrk memorial 970-573-6148 and leave us a hilarious message!!!
