Character actor and cult film star, best known for his role as a Replicant in the 1982 film Blade Runner, passed away this week at the age 75. Staring in the kind films that were often commercial flops but popular with fans he starred in films like Ladyhawke, The Hitcher and Blind Fury. Later in life, he went on to be in films like Batman Begins and Hobo With a Shotgun.
As well as acting Hauer was an activist that championed environmental causes and AIDS awareness through his Rutger Hauer Starfish Association.
When actors pass that have been a part of so many enjoyable moments in our lives it is hard to not feel sad, but Hauer led a full and rich life, leaving behind a body of work that all of us can enjoy for years to come. This seems like the perfect time to pop in a copy of Blade Runner and pay tribute to a man that will be missed.
