New Comics September 26th 2018

Well Fall is finally here. The air is a little cooler, the leaves have started changing, and it is a HUGE week for comics, so put your nerdy sweater on and grab a pumpkin spice something and lets dive in!

From Dark Horse this week, one of the most anticipated comic releases in a long time from a Netflix TV show that was very likely spawned from the comic book medium, Stranger Things makes its debut this week with issue #1 (of 4). The nostalgia igniting hit Netflix original series comes to comic shelves. Follow Will Byers into a dimension of decay and destruction where he must use his wits and resolve to dodge the pursuit of the Demogorgon and escape the Upside Down. Written by award winning comics veteran Jody Houser (Faith, Orphan Black, Mother Panic). Based on Will’s unseen journey during season 1 of hit Netflix show Stranger Things.

From DC this week, Batgirl #27 drops, and has Barbara returning to Gotham, and the debut of a new costume! You can’t go home again. But that’s just where Barbara Gordon, a.k.a. Batgirl, is forced to go when the chip granting her mobility keeps shorting out in the aftermath of her clash with Grotesque. Will Commissioner Gordon drive Babs totally bonkers with his bedside manner? Or will the malfunctioning tech impact more than just her legs? Plus, what’s the deal with killer art critic Grotesque and his murderous new M.O.? It’s all in part two of “Art of the Crime.”

Huge week for DC with the release of Heroes In Crisis #1 (of 7) written by Tom King with art by Clay Mann! There’s a new kind of crisis threatening the heroes of the DC Universe, ripped from real-world headlines by C.I.A.-operative-turned-comics-writer Tom King: How does a superhero handle PTSD? Welcome to Sanctuary, an ultra-secret hospital for superheroes who’ve been traumatized by crime-fighting and cosmic combat. But something goes inexplicably wrong when many patients wind up dead, with two well-known operators as the prime suspects: Harley Quinn and Booster Gold! It’s up to the DC Trinity of Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman to investigate-but can they get the job done in the face of overwhelming opposition?

Lastly from DC this week, Justice League Odyssey is FINALLY out! Spinning out of JUSTICE LEAGUE: NO JUSTICE! When a cosmic menace threatens worlds beyond our own in the Ghost Sector, it falls to a new Justice League team to answer the call to battle! Cyborg, Starfire, Green Lantern Jessica Cruz and an out-of-his-element Azrael head to deep space inside a commandeered Brainiac Skull Ship. But as these wildcard teammates try to break through the impenetrable maelstrom imprisoning the desperate collection of planets, they discover something that nothing in the universe could have prepared them for: Darkseid…who says he’s there to help?! Written by Josh Williamson with art by Stjepan Sejic!

From Dynamite this week, Vampirella Deja Thoris #1 hits the shelf! The encounter that was destined to happen! When an alien scout ship crashes on Mars, Dejah Thoris must risk reigniting war with the Green Martians and becoming dinner for the white apes. But the stakes are raised so much higher when the ship is revealed to carry Vampirella, who is on a desperate mission of survival-one that might end before it truly begins!

From Image this week, a new title called Man-Eater lands! Eisner-nominated and New York Times bestselling thriller writer CHELSEA CAIN returns to comics with a new ONGOING SERIES! A mutation in Toxoplasmosis causes menstruating women to turn into ferocious killer wildcats-easily provoked and extremely dangerous. As panic spreads and paranoia takes root, the fate of the world rides on the shoulders of one twelve-year-old girl. Part Cat People, part The Handmaid’s Tale, MAN-EATERS will have everyone talking.

From Marvel this week, the second of the Infinity Warps hits shelves with Iron Hammer #1 (of 2). When Stark Odinson, the brainy but arrogant son of the All-Father, was kidnapped by Ice Giants and forced to make them an armory, he turned their forges against them and became the armored Asgardian, Iron Hammer!

Lastly from Marvel this week, The Spidergeddon is here! Spidergeddon #0 swings onto shelves this week. The end of all Spiders doesn’t exclude the star of the most anticipated video game of 2018! Marvel’s Spider-Man is out September 7, 2018 exclusively on PlayStation 4. He makes his Marvel Comics debut on September 26! How does he enter the Marvel Universe and what role will he play in the final chapter of SPIDER-VERSE?!

New Comics for August 15th 2018

New Comics Release for 8/815/18

Hey Everyone! Here we go heading midway into August! Lots of fun stuff out this week, some new books, some crossovers, some new event miniseries, so lets dive right in shall we?

From DC this week, Aquaman #39 continues the “Sink Atlantis” story arc! Guest-starring Task Force X, and continuing from SUICIDE SQUAD #45, also on sale this month! After Atlantis rises to the surface once more, Aquaman finds himself outnumbered and outgunned when Amanda Waller sends in the worst of the worst-the Suicide Squad-to send the Lost City straight to Hell in “Sink Atlantis!” part two!

Batgirl #25 also hits stands this week and sees Barbara returning to Gotham! Barbara must come to terms with her complicated feelings about the city that made her Batgirl and turns to her friend, Dick Grayson for help. Does Dick have time for a heart-to-heart while subbing as Batman when Bruce Wayne is out of action? This extra-sized anniversary issue also offers a look at the next arc of the series by Mairghread Scott and Paul Pelletier as the monstrous villain Grotesque returns to murder wealthy art owners and defile their bodies to create his own “art.” And since this is the issue that keeps on giving, also look for a special backup story by Harley Quinn co-creator Paul Dini and artist Emanuela Lupacchino.

Lastly, from DC this week, Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos team up for the first title in Bendis’ “Jinxworld” imprint called Pearl #1 (of 6). PEARL is the story of an exceptional tattoo artist and accidental assassin for one of the modern-day San Francisco Yakuza. She was born into one life, but another is calling to her. When Pearl accidentally meets one of her peers, her doppelgänger from another clan, she starts to dream of a better life. But Pearl has a very special ability that keeps pulling her back into the violent world she is desperate to escape.

From Image Comics this week, Chris Sebela and Ro Stein debut a new series with Crowded #1! Ten minutes in the future, the world runs on an economy of job shares and apps, including Reapr: a crowdfunding platform to fund assassinations. Charlie Ellison leads a quiet, normal life until she’s suddenly targeted by a million-dollar Reapr campaign. Hunted by all of Los Angeles, Charlie hires Vita, the lowest-rated bodyguard on the Dfend app. As the campaign picks up speed, they’ll have to figure out who wants Charlie dead before the campaign’s 30 days-or their lives-are over.

From Marvel this week, Edge of Spider-Geddon #1 (of 4 ) fires off its first salvo. Spider-Punk is back and better than ever. After SPIDER-VERSE, Hobie Brown was a Web Warrior, but that didn’t mean things back in his universe were solved. The writer of the SPIDER-PUNK story in SPIDER-VERSE is back and joined by VENOM’S Gerardo Sandoval! Spider-Punk’s Earth is under attack both on the ground and from space, meaning his responsibility seems to outweigh his power. Don’t miss this first shot of the SPIDER-EVENT of 2018!

Also from Marvel this week, another event kicks off with Extermination #1 (of 5). Cyclops. Iceman. Angel. Beast. Marvel Girl. The original team of teen mutants brought together by Professor Charles Xavier many years ago have been shunted through time to find a world they barely recognize but were determined to help. Now, finding themselves targeted for death, the future of mutantkind lies squarely in the hands of its past. Writer Ed Brisson and artist Pepe Larraz answer the biggest question of all: can the fate of the X-Men be changed?

PLUS Astonishing X-Men Annual #1, AND Cable Deadpool Annual #1, AND Star Wars Beckett #1 land from the House of Ideas this week!

From AfterShock this week Volition #1 makes its debut! In a not-too-distant future, artificial intelligence has spawned a race of robots that serve all of humanity. Robots are considered second class citizens, but a few in the A.I. community are fighting back in a constant struggle for equal rights. When a debilitating virus called “Rust” threatens all artificial life, salvation lies in the most unlikely of robotic heroes-not a warrior or an solider, but in an obsolete construction worker and a dedicated caregiver. Together, HALE-19 and AMBER-7T embark on a perilous journey in search of a cure that could potentially change the balance of power on Earth forever.

New trailers for Justice League landed over
the weekend and I am crazy giddy about all of the Aquaman goodness, and Mera
was even in the trailer! And today we got a new Spider Man Homecoming trailer,
man is it a great time to be a comic fan! Speaking of comics, since this is the
5
th week in the month, its kind of a light week for new releases,
but regardless, there are some fun books on the racks this week, so lets dive
in, shall we?
From Dark Horse this week, Lobster Johnson The
Pirates Ghost #1 hits the stands. Written by John Arcudi and Mike Mignola with
art by Tonci Zonjic. This new mini series finds the New York Harbor Patrol in
over their heads when a ghostly pirate ship appears on the Hudson River, and
the Lobster’s hunt for a major mob boss may have something to do with it.

From DC this week, it’s Annual Week! Annuals
from Batgirl and Titans hit the shelves, along with the DC/Hanna Barbera
mash-up Specials including Adam Strange/Future Quest, Booster Gold/Flintstones,
Green Lantern/Space Ghost, and Suicide Squad/Banana Spilts. Also Dark Knight 3
Master Race #8 is out!

From Image this week the first story arc of
Moonshine wraps up with issue #6. Written by Brian Azzarello with art by
Eduardo Risso, in this final chapter, old scores are settled and much blood is
shed as gangster Lou Pirlo finally comes face to face with the monstrous
werewolf that’s been hunting him for months.

new one-shots hit the racks, in the form of Inhumans Prime #1 and X-Men Prime

fears them.

Lastly

a sinister place? When a murderous menace is on the prowl, taking the lives of
