New Comics Release for 7/11/18

Another big week of new releases this week with a couple of tentpole titles from the big 2! Also, word is there’s a secret new image book by Robert Kirkman that will be out tomorrow. Keep your eyes peeled for more info about that! Lets get to it!

From Boom! this week, a new digital first comic makes it print debut with Ruinworld #1 (of 5). Intrepid adventurers Pogo and Rex are on a quest for fame and fortune. Their discovery of a special map leads them on an epic journey through dangers, demons and old enemies. Just one problem-they’ve already lost the map. An all-ages comic about fun, friendship and screaming in the face of danger, perfect for fans of Adventure Time and Adventure Zone.

From Dark Horse this week, the creator of Halt and Catch Fire debuts a new series on the Berger Books imprint called She Could Fly #1. In Chicago, an unknown woman appears flying at speeds of 120 miles per hour and at heights reaching 2,000 feet. Then she suddenly dies in a fiery explosion mid-air. No one knows who she was, how she flew, or why. Luna, a disturbed 15-year-old girl becomes obsessed with learning everything about her while rumors and conspiracy theories roil. Will cracking the secrets of the Flying Woman’s inner life lead to the liberation from her own troubled mind?

From DC this week, Big Blue is back in a new ongoing series with Brian Michael Bendis at the helm! Superman #1 comes out this week and is drawn by Ivan Reis. The fallout from the Man of Steel miniseries has Clark Kent looking at the world through new eyes… with new ideas about what Superman could and should do for the city of Metropolis and the planet Earth. His first job? Getting the planet back out of the Phantom Zone!

Also from DC this week Flash #50 hits the racks and is the Finale of Flash War! Zoom adapts two new Speed Force powers into his arsenal against both Barry Allen and Wally West. What are these strange new powers? What can they do? And how will this haunt the Scarlet Speedster long after “Flash War” is over? It’s the power of two Flashes pitted against the seemingly unstoppable Hunter Zolomon!

Lastly from DC this week, Titans #23 hits shelves. Can anything stop the Metagene pandemic unleashed through the events of JUSTICE LEAGUE: NO JUSTICE? The all-new Titans are on the case. Roll call: Nightwing, Donna Troy, Raven, Steel, Beast Boy and Miss Martian! But can even their combined might stand against new super-powered weapons of mass destruction birthed by the Metagenes? And (SPOILERS) how will the events of TEEN TITANS #20 come back to haunt the Titans? New enemies are out for blood in part one of “The Spark.”

From IDW this week Alan Moore returns to the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen! The Tempest #1 comes out this week! After an epic twenty-year journey through the entirety of human culture, Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill conclude both their legendary League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and their equally legendary comic-book careers with the series’ spectacular fourth and final volume, “The Tempest.” This six-issue miniseries is a celebration of everything comics were, are and could be. Opening simultaneously in the panic-stricken headquarters of British Military Intelligence, the fabled Ayesha’s lost African city of Kor and the domed citadel of ‘We’ on the devastated Earth of the year 2996, the dense and yet furiously-paced narrative hurtles like an express locomotive across the fictional globe.

From Image this week, the artist from Chew debuts his new ongoing series! Rob Guillory writes and draws Farmhand, a dark new comedy about science gone sinister and agriculture gone apocalyptic! Jedidiah Jenkins is a farmer-but his cash crop isn’t corn or soy. Jed grows fast-healing, plug-and-play human organs. Lose a finger? Need a new liver? He’s got you covered. Unfortunately, strange produce isn’t the only thing Jed’s got buried. Deep in the soil of the Jenkins Family Farm, something dark has taken root, and it’s beginning to bloom.

Also from Image this week, Outpost Zero #1 hits racks. Welcome to Outpost Zero, the smallest town in the universe. The people there work the land, go to the fights every Friday night, and tuck their children into bed-but the Outpost is no place for dreams or aspirations. To survive is ambitious enough. As Alea and her friends graduate to adulthood on a frozen world never meant to support human life, something stirs. Something sees…

From Marvel this week, web head is back and in a brand new series with a brand new creative team! Amazing Spider Man #1 hits shelves this week! An alien invasion hits New York City and the only one who can stop it is…Spider-Man?! But that’s far from all you’ll find here – a revelation from the past puts Peter Parker’s job, relationships, and whole life in jeopardy! And if even that’s not enough, you’ll see a new roommate, new love interests – and a new villain! Spider-Man goes back to basics courtesy of Nick Spencer (SECRET EMPIRE, SUPERIOR FOES OF SPIDER-MAN) and the Marvel debut of RYAN OTTLEY (Invincible)!

Lastly from Marvel this week, X-23 #1 makes its debut! Cloned from a warrior, raised as a killer, Laura Kinney has gone through hell and come out the other side a hero. After a stint as the All-New Wolverine, she returns to her roots as X-23 to make sure no one ever has to go through the horrors she did. With her sister Gabby and their pet Jonathan in tow, X-23 forges her own destiny in this new series by Mariko Tamaki (HULK, HUNT FOR WOLVERINE: CLAWS OF A KILLER) and Juann Cabal (ALL-NEW WOLVERINE, ELEKTRA).

From AfterShock this week Relay #1 makes it debut! A perfect future of intergalactic travel and community. Every newly discovered planet is unified culturally through a monolithic structure known as the Galactic Relay. Although the towering monument is meant to inspire conformity of ideas, technology, and progress – many resent the foreign structure. Jad Carter, a Relay employee, must keep the peace and act as an emissary to new civilizations. But when he finds the Relay’s mythological creator, Hank Donaldson, his idea of reality and the universe shatters.

New Comics May 16th 2018

It’s a relatively light week this week, comparatively speaking, but lots of old standbys to keep you satiated!

From Boom this week, the Shattered Grid event continues in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #27! As Lord Drakkon’s power and influence grows, the Power Rangers work with new allies from across time and dimensions, including Ranger teams such as Time Force, RPM, and Samurai, to craft a plan to fight back…but is it already too late?

From DC this week, NO JUSTICE continues! After the cliffhanger from issue #1, the teams arrive at Brainiac’s home world to find it already in chaos. Only by splitting up and journeying to the four cosmic trees of Colu will they have any hope of saving the planet…but what’s waiting for them will test the true mettle of their new alliances!

Also this week, New Challengers #1 (of 6) debuts! From the pages of DARK NIGHTS: METAL! Challengers Mountain has returned to the DC Universe and chosen a new team of explorers! Five misfit strangers are given a second chance at life, but only if they obey the orders of the mysterious Professor and execute deadly missions in the most unexplored corners of the multiverse! And if the new Challengers of the Unknown fail…it will be more than just their own lives that hang in the balance!

Lastly, from DC, Superman Special #1 is here this week! “THE PROMISE”! Superman’s world is about to change in a big way, but before it does, the Man of Steel has some unfinished business to attend to…on Dinosaur Island! Superman and a forgotten soldier of the past take one last trip together into the abyss of tomorrow, as Captain Storm now stands face-to-face with the world of today! This extra-sized special also features stories by writers Mark Russell and Ian Flynn with art by Kaare Andrews and Bryan Hitch!

From Image this week, Gideon Falls #3 hits the shelf! Norton gets closer to the secrets of the Black Barn as Fred discovers a grizzly new crime in Gideon Falls.

From Marvel this week, the hunt for Wolverine continues with the debut of new series Claws of the Killer. As word spreads that Wolverine may have returned from the grave, a handful of his greatest adversaries come together to track him down and put him back there. But the brutal and horrific nightmare that SABRETOOTH, LADY DEATHSTRIKE and DAKEN uncover could lead to even more death than even these vicious killers can handle.

Also from Marvel this week, Mighty Thor Gates of Valhalla #1 hits the shelves. “The Death of the Mighty Thor” has come and gone. But Jane Foster’s power to inspire lives on – even in the far future! Don’t miss the tribute to Jason Aaron’s epic tale of Thor and the mighty hammer Mjolnir, drawn by rising star Jen Bartel!
And with or without a Thor, the War of Realms continues. As Malekith’s power grows, the realms will fall – and who is left to stop him? Eisner Award-winning artist Ramón Pérez kicks off the next stage of Jason Aaron’s ongoing saga.

Lastly from Marvel, the X-Men Wedding Special #1 drops this week and features Chris Claremont’s return to the X-Men! One of the biggest milestone events in X-Men history is almost here! Kitty Pryde and Colossus are finally about the tie the knot…but what’s a wedding without the respective bachelor and bachelorette parties? Join Marc Guggenheim and Kelly Thompson for two parties that can only be celebrated Marvel style! All this, plus, a Kitty and Colossus story by legendary X-Men scribe, Chris Claremont!!!

From AfterShock this week, Garth Ennis and Goran Sudzuka debut a new series called A Walk Through Hell! So these two FBI agents walk into a warehouse…
Special Agents Shaw and McGregor handle the routine cases nowadays, which is just the way Shaw likes it. She’s pushing 40, a borderline burnout, the ghastly memories of her last investigation still clinging like shadows. McGregor is younger, more dedicated, hanging onto some measure of idealism whatever the world might throw at him. When two fellow agents go missing inside a Long Beach warehouse, Shaw and McGregor are sent to investigate. But what they find waiting is far from routine, as the local police have already discovered to their cost. Before the night is out, our heroes will encounter terror beyond their most appalling nightmares-in a place where the night may never end at all.

New Comics for April 17th 2018

Man the hits just keep on coming! Another gigantic week lands this Wednesday with some pretty amazing books, so rather than wax poetically about what may come, lets jump right in with a preview of the coolest things to tantalize your eyes!

From Boom! Studios this week, the Shattered Grid crossover event continues in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #26. After the shocking events of the last issue, Lord Drakkon’s victory seems assured-unless the Rangers can find a way to team up with another team of Power Rangers they’ve never met before!

From Dark Horse this week, Jeff Lemire’s breakout hit Black Hammer is back with Age of Doom #1. Picking up immediately where we left off-Lucy Weber has become the new Black Hammer and right as she’s about to reveal to our heroes how they got stuck on the farm and can escape she vanishes. Now our new Black Hammer finds herself trapped in a gritty world filled with punk rock detectives, emo gods, anthropomorphic humans, absurdist heroes, and many more weirdoes, in a mad world in which there is no escape!

From DC this week, its finally here! The Milestone of Milestones. Without which, we wouldn’t even be here! Action Comics #1000 debuts this week, 80 years after issue #1. This 80 page issue ships with 10 different covers and with an all-star lineup of top talent as they pay tribute to the comic that started it all! From today’s explosive action to a previously unpublished tale illustrated by the legendary Curt Swan to the Man of Tomorrow’s future-this very special, oversized issue presents the best of the best in Superman stories!

Also this week, OLD LADY HARLEY! Harley Quinn #42 features a new story arc written by Frank Tieri with art by Mauricet. In this far-flung future tale, Harley returns home thirty years after leaving Coney Island — or, more accurately, she’s DRAGGED home — to deal with the mess that the Gangs of Harley have made in her absence! Her disciples have all splintered into warring tribes, and they’ve torn down what’s left of ravaged, mutated New York City in the process!

From Marvel this week, Red Goblin drama continues in Amazing Spider Man #799. After the events of issue #798 and the debut of Norman Osborn and the Carnage symbiote as Red Goblin, SPIDER-MAN will need to the help of friend and foe alike. The mystery of the RED GOBLIN is finally revealed, and it’s not going to be pretty for Peter Parker!

Also this week, X-Men Gold #26 begins the lead in to the wedding of Kitty Pryde and Colossus! But WHO is tying the knot? And can I bring a plus-one? The X-MEN in their final confrontation with an old foe, a fight that ends up costing RACHEL everything. Plus… The evil alliance you never expected.

From AfterShock this week, Her Infernal Descent #1 hits the shelves written by Lonnie Nadler and Zac Thompson with art by Kyle Charles. A tale of loss told in five parts. Any good mom would march through the inferno of HELL to get her family back. Unable to cope with the burden of grief, a middle-aged mom descends the nine circles of hell to retrieve her forsaken family. Guided by the ghosts of William Blake and Agatha Christie, this no-nonsense mother journeys deep into a bizarre underworld filled with celebrity sinners, surreal landscapes, and absurd tasks. Her Infernal Descent is a retelling of Dante’s Inferno that updates the themes for a modern audience.

Well it is the last week of February. Man how this month absolutely FLEW! Its a pretty big week including new Previews, so lets jump in headfirst without looking!
From Dark Horse this week, the world of Jeff Lemire’s Black Hammer continues to expand with a new series called Doctor Star and the Kingdom of Lost Tomorrows. Written by Jeff Lemire with art by Max Fiumara. This dual-narrative story set in the world of the Eisner-Award winning Black Hammer series chronicles the legacy of a Golden-Age superhero. Over the course of the story we learn his World War II-era origin, how he got his powers, his exciting astral adventures, the formation of some of Black Hammer’s greatest heroes, and more in this heartbreaking superhero tale about fathers and sons.

From DC this week, Detective Comics hits issue #975, and in a 30 page story, details “The Trial of Batwoman”. Batwoman faces scrutiny from Batman and Red Robin but stands up for her actions. Will Batman allow her to continue bearing his symbol after everything she has done?

But a startling revelation on their return trip brings them face to face with a new mystery: Where in the universe is Tom Strong?

From Image this week, SAGA is BACK! New story arc starts here in issue #49!

Also this week, a new 5-issue mini series called Beef debuts written by Richard Starkings and Tlyer Shainline with art by Shaky Kane. Chuck is a mild-mannered meat factory worker who is a little in love with a strawberry picker named Mary Lynn. But everything changes when Mary Lynn falls victim to the Vodino Brothers….

From Marvel this week, a new 5 issue mini series featuring everyones favorite giant dog debuts with Lockjaw #1. At long last, the dog has his day! Lockjaw spends most of his time defending the Inhuman empire alongside Black Bolt and Medusa. But when he gets a message that his long-lost litter mates are in danger, he’ll spring into action to save them! But wait – Lockjaw has brothers and sisters? Can they teleport? Are they Inhuman? Can they possibly be as gosh-darned cute as their big brother? All the answers are here! Get ready for an adventure worth fetching for!

Also from Marvel this week, the series finale to Gwenpool with issue #25 and Peter Parker hits a milestone with Peter Parker Spectacular Spider-Man #300!

From Black Mask this week a new series called The Wilds debuts. Written by Vita Ayala with art by Emily Pearson. Daisy Walker is a Runner for The Compound, a mix of post-apocalyptic postal service and black market salvaging operation. It is a Runner’s job to ferry items and people between settlements, and on occasion scavenge through the ruins of the old world. Daisy is the best there is at what she does. Out beyond the settlement walls are innumerable dangers: feral animals, crumbling structures, and Abominations – those that were touched by the plague and became something other. After a decade of surviving, Daisy isn’t phased by any of it – until her lover, another Runner named Heather, goes missing on a job. Desperate to find her, Daisy begins to see that there may be little difference between the world inside the walls and the horrors beyond.

From Boom! Studios this week, Jim Henson’s Labyrinth gets a monthly comic treatment. Written by Simon Spurrier with Daniel Bayliss on art the series is titled Coronation and is a prequel to the feature film! Before Sarah braved the Labyrinth to save her brother, another young woman sought to save a young boy named Jareth from the clutches of the Goblin King. The untold history of the Goblin King and the history of Jim Henson’s Labyrinth. He wasn’t always the Goblin King…

New Comics for December 6th 2017

New Comics Release for 12/6/17

Well it is December! Man how time flies! With
all of the hubbub surrounding the holidays, make sure you find time to treat
yourself to some comics! And this week proves that there are still some stellar
things in the pipelines for the last of 2017!
From DC this week, the ever-coveted DC
Universe Holiday Special 2017 hits shelves. DC Comics’
finest talents have assembled to bring you a holiday special like you’ve never
seen before! Join Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash as they deliver powerful
messages of hope like only The Worlds Greatest Super-Heroes can! Plus: Sgt.
Rock fights the Nazis on Hanukah, the Teen Titans take on the literal ghost of
Christmas past, and Swamp Thing battles that creeping feeling of existential
dread! And don’t miss the legendary Denny O’Neil’s return to comics with an
all-new Batman story!

From Image this week,
three new debuts hit the racks, with Paradiso, Sleepless, and the return of
Witchblade!
From writer Ram V and
artist Dev Pramanik, comes Paradiso #1 a new technothriller! The Midnight Event
forever changed the world. Now, centuries later, Jack Kryznan arrives on the
outskirts of Paradiso City, haunted by fragments of childhood memories and in
possession of a mysterious device-one with the power to change the destiny of
this living breathing metropolis, the people who dwell within, and the
guardians who strive for and against it.

From writer Sarah
Vaughn and artist Leila Del Duca comes Sleepless #1, a new fantasy romance
series! Lady “Poppy” Pyppenia is guarded by the Sleepless Knight
Cyrenic, but danger is around every corner once the new king is
coronated.

Lastly, Witchblade is
back! Written by Caitlin Kittredge with art by Roberta Ingranata. Gunned down
and left for dead on a New York rooftop, Alex Underwood’s life should have
ended there-but instead, at the moment of death, she became host to the
Witchblade, a mystical artifact that grants the woman wielding it extraordinary
powers. But the power comes with a heavy cost, and Alex finds herself thrust
into the center of an unseen battle raging on the snowy streets of NYC. Demons
are real and walking among humans, and every one of them is intent on taking
out the Witchblade’s newest host before she becomes too strong to kill. But the
artifact chose Alex for a reason, and she’s not going down without a fight.

From Marvel this week, a special one-shot hits
racks that kicks off a crossover event between Amazing Spider Man and Venom. Amazing Spider Man Venom Inc Alpha #1 is
written by Dan Slott with art by Ryan Stegman. Peter Parker, Eddie Brock and
Flash Thompson have one major thing in common – the Venom symbiote changed all
of their lives. The inky black alien life-form is doubling down on our heroes –
and they’re not the only ones about to be put through the ringer. VENOM INC.
kicks off here and rolls into AMAZING SPIDER-MAN & VENOM as a familiar face
rises to new levels of villainy!

From Boom! Studios
this week, another beloved Nickelodeon cartoon is adapted to comics with Rockos
Modern Life #1! Ryan Ferrier (Regular Show) and Ian McGinty (Adventure Time)
continue BOOM! Studios’ partnership with Nickelodeon with all-new stories about
everyone’s favorite wallaby!
When Rocko faces unemployment, a terrible living
situation, and increasingly slim job prospects, he is forced to find out just
how far he is willing to go to get a job. Features
a backup story by KC Green where Ed Bighead finds himself in the dentist chair
of Dr. Hutchison!

From Dynamite this
week, Barbarella is back and is written by Mike Carey with art by Kenan Yarar. Earth’s
star-crossed daughter is back! When Barbarella wanders into a war zone, the
theocratic rulers of Parosia arrest and imprison her. A prison break is
brewing, but now that she knows what the Parosians do to their own citizens
Barbarella decides to make this fight her own…

of the Black Hammer, grew up to become an investigative reporter for the Global
Planet. Now she’s on the hunt for the true story about what happened to Spiral
City’s superheroes after they defeated Anti-God and saved the world. All
answers seem to lie with the dangerous super villain tenants of Spiral City’s
infamous asylum. As she gets closer to the truth she uncovers the dark origin
stories of some of her father’s greatest foes, and learns how they tie into the
puzzle of what happened to Spiral City’s greatest hero.

From DC this week, the Metal train keeps

Jason Aaron and with art by Russell Dauterman, The final judgement

New Comics October 4th 2017

New Comics Release for 10/4/17

And it’s October! Sorry about missing my
weekly write up last week. Its been nuts with these huge new releases. What did
everyone think about Marvel Legacy? How about Murder Machine? Lots more in
store for this first week of October so lets get right to it!
From DC this week, the highly anticipated
Batman White Knight #1 from superstar Sean Murphy arrives! In a world
where Batman has gone too far, The Joker must save Gotham City. He’s been called a maniac, a killer and the “Clown Prince of
Crime” but “white knight”? Never. Until now… Set in a world where the Joker is cured of his
insanity and homicidal tendencies, The Joker, now known as “Jack,”
sets about trying to right his wrongs. First he plans to reconcile with Harley
Quinn, and then he’ll try to save the city from the one person who he thinks is
truly Gotham City’s greatest villain: Batman!

From Image this week, a new series starts up
with Slots #1 written and drawn by Dan Panosian. You can
say this about the life of Stanley Dance: he did it his way. Unfortunately, his
way never took getting old into account. Now, the former boxer is on his last
legs, looking for redemption…but he’ll settle for going down swinging.
Roll the dice with superstar artist DAN PANOSIAN
as he creates a bold and breathtaking vision of Las Vegas, where everything old
can become new, and superstition influences how the chips fall. This week also
sees the start of the Walking Dead Tribute covers across many titles this
month!

From Marvel this week, in the wake of Legacy,
many titles are switching to their Legacy numbering, so be on the look out for
that, and along with the Legacy numbering come the Lenticular covers! But, this
week sees the return of the Spirits of Vengeance in a new #1 and mini series! A dead
angel. A silver bullet. A kept promise. For ages, the war between Heaven and
Hell raged in the unseen corners of society, both sides in delicate balance
that could topple if the right weapons were in the wrong hands… When an
undercover angel is murdered, Johnny Blaze, the Ghost Rider, must find the
killers and punish them…But this time he won’t do it alone: A deadly team
must rise from the darkest depths of the Marvel Universe to form an unholy
alliance – HELLSTORM! SATANA! BLADE! They are the SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE!

From Boom! Studios
this week, a new mini series by fan favorites James Tynion and Eryk Donovan
called Eugenic #1 hits shelves. When a
plague ravages the world, one scientist discovers the cure and becomes the
savior of mankind. Hope is restored, and the world rebuilds. But then people
who took the cure begin having children who are… unnatural, and the
definition of “normal” is forever altered.

From Dynamite this week, in the wake of the
Batman/Shadow crossover comes Shadow/Batman #1! Written by Steve Orlando with
art by Giovanni Timpano. The World’s
Greatest Mystery. The World’s Greatest Detective. They can barely stand each
other, so how will they possibly deal with the World’s Greatest Evil? What
legacy can two of the world’s most enduring icons of justice leave once they
discover an ancient evil has been living inside the world they protect for
centuries, attached to its heart. Can Batman and the Shadow save the world
without killing it in the process?

From Lion
Forge this week, VOLTRON returns! Voltron Legendary Defender Vol 2 #1 hits the
racks this week. Voltron responds to a distress call, and discovers a group of
alien settlers on a mining planet under attack by the Galra. But the attempted
rescue is only the beginning of more exciting Voltron adventures from Tim
Hedrick and Mitch Iverson, writers on the hit DreamWorks series on
Netflix.

Lastly,
from New England Comics, following the revamped Amazon Prime series, The Tick
is back with a new ongoing and #1 this week! Written by Cullen Bunn (
Deadpool Kills the Marvel
Universe
, X-Men Blue, Harrow County) and
drawn by Douglas Paszkiewicz (
Arsenic Lullaby), The
Tick and Arthur confront the dire menaces of ninjas and murder clowns, while
also flashing back to blasts from The Tick’s heretofore unexplored past! Join
us for fun as Bunn imprints
The Tick with
his own creative style of storytelling!
